Hi

MAIN QUESTION: I was wondering what kind of people are visiting the hotels in El Gouna like Movenpick and such. How many % of the visitors (approximately) are families with children?
Are there a lot of children in the range of 15-18 years old?
How many % of the days can i expect to get decent wind (16+knots)?

Have a nice one guys :)

Last time I went I got half a day out of 7 with wind above 16Knts.

Quiet kite beach. Lots of fools pumping up 16m kites and leaving them in the sun all day.

Nice hotel if you like that sort of thing. Personally I wished I'd stayed in Holland.

I beleave they do get better conditions but generaly I think they hype it a bit. Good if you are a beginner but better places if you are more advanced.

I stayed for a month in El Gouna and got about 50% days of kiting. Better check the forecast though, as there can be bad weeks. Movenpick beach is downwind of some small islands, so the wind might not be as steady there as on Mangroovy beach (this is where I kited).

I went two times to the Movenpick (last year and the year before).
This year we are going to another country as nobody knows how the things will turn in Egypt.
I have some friends who were expat in Cairo when Moubarak went out and it was not a comfortable situation.

On the other hand El Gouna is a "fake city" "protected by the army". So as long as the generals hold the "power" in Egypt it should be relatively safe.

So to say, the Movenpick is great for kites with family with small children. They have a good kid club.
But for 15/18 except if they want to kite or dive, there is not a lot of thing to do.
At 15/18 they are bit too young for the bar/club scene and a bit too old for the kid club.

For the kiting. I would say 70% of good kiting condition (you may need sometime to rent those big beginner boards if the wind is a bit low).
Tide may be an issue but it you are ready to go outside the lagoon (i.e. to the deep water) you can kite the whole day.

Mauritius Le Morne in September.
Same type of organization: nice hotel with a kid club. So I can kite, my wife can relax and the kid can play with with the other kids.
Everybody is happy :-)
Obviously you have to "sacrifice" some kiting days to do some family activities (snorkeling , visit of markets or other tourist activities.

I went last year in September and got one week pretty much completely off and the next week nuking.

If you can book last minute and time it, do that.
