Just came in from another super sweet ride on mu Fat Lady! That kite is just awesome! 10-15 knots of wind and I was going upwind like a rocket, doing unhooked tricks like raleys! I does come with 24 meter lines as standard! I wouldn't put longer extensions than 3-5 meters on it!
Alohasurfer : I totaly agree with you. The sweet spot for the Fat Lady lines lenght is 27 to 29 meters (so 3 to 5 meters extensions).
I've been riding the kite many times on 3 setups : without extensions (24m total), with 2m (26m) and 5m (29m) extensions.
1- no extension : kite turns very fast (it feels like a 12m) but low end is not excellent
2- 2m extensions : turns almost as fast as without extensions, low end slightly improved
3- 5m extensions : very good balance between turning speed and low end
With setup 5m extensions, the kite is fast enough to practice your kiteloops, you just have to keep your hands wider on the bar. I wouldn't go longer than that.
By the way, this is an amazing kite. My point of view was : if there's not enought wind for a 12m, stay home... till I've tried the Fat Lady in OBX. This kite saved me 3 days of kiting on a 1 week kitesurf trip!
Now, this kite is my freestyle progression kite :
- the pop is amazing for such a big kite
- perfect slack in the lines after the pop
- slow enough to forgive errors, fast enough to build confidence in kiteloops
- amazing hang time that helps to practice grabs and old school moves
Laughingman : that's unfortunate that you've tried the Fat Lady with the wrong setup. Give it a second try.
