Scratched my board today on some disguised coral and rock, any performance issues or have I wrecked the board.

Do I need to do anything? Rewax?

Thanks

Depends on how deep the scratch is.

If it is just superficial and hasn't gone through to the core, then you should be alright and it will just be a bit of a eyesore.

If it has gone through to the core however, you need to get it fixed because if water gets into the core of the board it will swell and warp and ruin the board.

I'm sure there should be some repair places near you that won't charge too much to patch it up for you. We've all been there though, kicking yourself afterwards for kiting on such shallow water. Hope it isn't too bad.

What disguise was the coral wearing? What should we look for?

photo?

as stated if it hasn't scratched deep into the core just ride it.
if it has most likely you need to add some resin to it to seal it back up. you may be able to add some localised resin to the area. but that will be visable. Or re-resin the whole bottom for a comprehensive scratch.

lastly you need to decide if theres structural dammage. EG fibreglass layers damaged. If that is the case then you may need to reinforce the area with more glass.

if all of this sounds like japanese to you. find a surfboard or fibreglass repairer and give it to them to fix.

If it's a twin tip now you dont have to worry about it any more now you got your first scratch so can go even harder around the coral

If it's a surfboard, might be best to have it looked at.
