I think I have a lot to learn to be a "compleat" waterman, but I definitely have a great affinity for the water. Part of the reason I started kiting was as a windy complement to rowing. I enjoy ready access to the bay, the ocean, and the Long Island Sound. Although I love mountains and snow, I wouldn't want to live inland away from any large bodies of water.

Always felt that label had a lot more to it than watersports. Someone who makes their living on the water and plays on the water. Knowledge of the area, shoals, currents, condition patterns through the seasons. People who are a little more plugged into the biosphere of their local aquaculture more than just like to ride boards.

We all started of as watermen, 9 months long.
Thereafter each one of us took his own route.
Some stayed wet, other went to high ground.
I think being a waterman is the afinity one develops with the liquid element.
The open mindedness to try new things and to master them, to move on to the next things and master these, to stay receptive to changes and to gain the humility and knowledge that you will never know it all : )

A true waterman is a guy who enjoys what he does in the water. So we ALL are !
