Upgrade crossbow to 2014 switchblade?

Postby rleshem » Mon Dec 16, 2013 3:07 am

I have a 2010 crossbow 10m which I was thinking to upgrade to a 2014 switchblade (or 2013).
I mainly boost and am getting into some back rolls. I also plan to go into the waves but not as often.
Main reasons to switch are for lower bar pressure and higher turning speed. The kite is in fairly good condition. Are the new switchblades significantly different than the 2010 crossbow?

Yes and no... it'll be fresh and exciting, but still feel familiar :D You won't be disappointed, I think.

I updated my 2010 XBow quiver to 2012 and '13 Switchblades and I love them! Much more stable and you can ride them in waves. No secret, the XBows were absolutely terrible in waves. I think you'll be happy with the change. :thumb:

Thanks! I'll try to demo one. Did you find the bar pressure to be a lot lighter ?

Perhaps a little lighter on the 2014 SB12 compared to my 2011 XB13... but the 2011 has much lighter bar pressure than the 2010 XB. The SB is more direct in response too... so it's a win-win there I think.

Don’t want to hijack the thread but I am in a similar situation. I have 2010 XBow 9m & 2009 SB 12m and am thinking what to get next. I tried 2011 XBow once and found that its super low bar pressure just does not work for me. I could not feel the kite at all, and if it was not for the light wind I think any strong gust could have thrown me off the board. It might be a matter of getting used to it, but I still believe that high bar pressure is important to me as it is sort of a way to handle strong gusts.

Anyway, my question is whether the new 2014 Cabrinha kites are closer to 2011 or 2009/2010 in terms of the bar pressure? Are there any other kite brands whose bar pressure is closer to the feel of Cabrinha’s pre 2011 line-up?
