KTA News:

KTA Pranburi 2014, Thailand cancelled

As promised in our last newsletter we are immediately bringing you the outcome of the local government and sponsors meeting in Pranburi regarding a final decision on the KTA Pranburi event.

Unfortunately the sponsors and local government have decided they cannot now go ahead with the event due to the troubles in Bangkok which have basically caused a dramatic downturn in incomes for the key sponsors of this event.

Tourism is down more than 50% across Thailand in general since the riots first began and tourism numbers do not look like they will recover anytime soon. As the sponsors for Pranburi are a hotel business group they are feeling this effect more immediately than most, so hence their decision to sadly withdraw funding from the KTA even.

We are sorry for all riders who have made plans to compete in the final event, but this situation is unfortunately beyond the KTA’s control and funding levels to solve.

It means therefore that Boracay will be the final event for this KTA tour season and we are sure Boracay is going to be a mega blast of an event, so let’s make it a good one. We have decided also with the blessing of the IKA to award KTA Asia Tour overall winners medals in all the disciplines Freestyle, TT and Formula to mark everyone’s season achievements regardless and to give the final awards night a proper high to finish on.

This will be in addition to all those lovely Cabrinha prizes for the round winners and with USD 15,000 worth of kit up for grabs it will be worth pumping your kites up for.

On an even more positive note although the Asia Tour now finishes at Boracay there is still one or two smaller open events in the pipeline, so keep a look out on the KTA Facebook and websites for updates on those. Also work is already underway for next season with location confirmations already and some new countries also wanting to bring the KTA to their locations

But we see everyone who is competing in Boracay next week first and then take it from there as they say
