Day 2 of the San Juan Foil cup saw plenty of crashes with winds gusting 30 knots. Damien Leroy switched from an 11m Velocity to a 7m right before the start of race 1! Some Cabrinha team riders were lucky enough to borrow smaller kites from Juan Carlos of 15 Knots kiteboarding (the event host). Youngest rider Andre Bacic riding a MHL Custom Lift Foil made some major climbs today with the help of legend/coach Rich Garnder. Other standouts were foil pioneers Kiko Dalmau, Art Wible, & Willy Rodriguez as they proved they are forces to be reckoned with. Kiko made some changes as a few races he was rounding the whether mark in first. Floridian up and comer Zack Marks made some major improvements as well. Jon Modica was the star today, climbed to 1st place after day 2.
We were able to chat with Jon at the end of the day who accredited his success to his girlfriends “back massages” and making him PB and J sandwiches. I personally saw her applying his sun screen as well as feeding him and pumping up his kites. Man, I hate being single……..
