Shipping Used Kite

Postby Rossta » Thu Jul 24, 2014 9:09 pm

I'm starting to look to a buy a used kite and was hoping some of y'all could share your experiences with shipping. I hear its cheapest to use USPS. I'm in Florida so UPS or FedEx gets real pricey if shipping from CA. I can check rates online but I'm not sure how big the box is going to need to be to fit the kite. I'm looking at getting a 9 or 10M kite. Has anyone been able to fit them in the flat rate boxes? Otherwise it seems to get pretty pricey if its any bigger. Any advice you can give would be very helpful.

Thanks!!

usually go to walmart and get a box, then usps or ups with tracking and insurance is usually 25-35 bucks

i just shipped using ups in a walmart box with a declared value of 850 for 30 bucks, its cheapest to pack the kite, measure the box and weight and then make a ups account and make a shipment online and print the label out in your home printer, drop it off at a UPS store, ask for a receipt and that its man

Shipped a fair amount of gear to and from.
For me, Fedex Ground Service is beating USPS and UPS these days.
Just shipped an 11M kite for $20.70 Texas to North Carolina.
The box was 22 X 20 X 7 I think, and it was 13 pounds.
The key is to not ship a pump, takes up lots of space.
Also fold the kite well, be picky about folding it.
Length and width are less critical that box height, so press that bad boy down flat.
I've shipped twintips for $20 if the box height is as low as possible.
But you need to ship it at a Fedex facility, not some "Fedex Store" or "UPS Store".
The online Fedex quoting system is very accurate, so you can find out what it will cost to ship.
Get it packed, then measure and weigh and get a Fedex quote.
And notice how the price jumps if your box is too tall.

Agree. It used to be that USPS Priority was cheapest, but not any more. Fedex Ground is cheapest any time I'm shipping in the continental U.S.

Somebody has a box you can have....grab one from work, school, neighbor, friend, the recycling bin. If it's too big, just cut it down and tape it well. It's more about the weight, within reason.

I appreciate the advice! Apparently the size of the box can make a huge difference. Using the 22x22x7 dimensions shipping from Cali to Florida was $26 with FedEx. Price goes up quickly with increase in box size. I just wasn't sure what size box the kite would be able to fit in. Thanks again!

If you are buying a kite, the seller will be choosing the method of shipping and that may depend on the locations and convenience of shipping companies. As long as the seller is not asking for some ridiculous amount of money, I wouldn't make an issue of it.

rossta try the shipping calculator with the size 22 x 17 x 13 <-- this is the size of the standard fedex 25kg box. box size doesnt matter with usps as long as you are under the 108 inches linear limit and not too long

Should a 9 or 10M kite be able to fit in that size box? Have you used that size before? Thanks!

I've been shipping kites for years. Use the smallest box you can fit the kite and bag in.
It will cost you about $25 and you cantrack it's delivery. Easy!

Um, no.
Cash talks.
The seller provides the cash, so the seller gets what he wants.
