Bridge and Kalinina grab the titles for Course racing on the final day of KTE Italy
The ultimate day of the Kitesurf Tour Europe arrived and it was all to play for in the course racing division. With the Freestyle competition finished yesterday, all eyes turned to the top formula riders competing for the title.
The sea breeze was back today but not as strong as usual so the big kites were used. The star of the day was once again the 2013 European Champion from the UK, Oliver Bridge. With 3 bullets and a second he’d created a massive lead over Leccese and Gruber, topping the leaderboard. In the battle for places two and three Leccese (with two disappointing races) gave the opportunity to 2013 World Champion, Gruber to catch up. It was all decided in the final race and Leccese managed to score a second place finishing a mere half point in front of Gruber on the leaderboard.
In the women’s fleet claiming the top spot was an easy task for Russian rider Elena Kalinina. She had the perfect score of 13 bullets leaving all of the other kiters far behind.
The Twin Tip riders saw some action today too with their races following on after the course racing event. A beautiful fiesta of kites were on show as everyone joined in and had lots of fun out on the water.
Later in the evening the closing ceremony was held for all of the divisions with the winners receiving their awards and prize money. It’s been a memorable championship with the variable conditions allowing for riders to demonstrate their skill and versatility which for some ultimately saw them take home the title.
Hang Loose Beach has proved once again that it is one of the top places for prestigious Kitesurfing events. This week has been a great success and no one was left disappointed. Thank you for watching and here’s to another great Kitesurf Tour Europe next year.
