Alaia in Romania

Postby av_dumitrascu » Sun Aug 03, 2014 2:10 pm

Hi to all the board builders/shapers and riders!

Getting stoked by the surfing feeling (I am riding a 6'2" Bamboos F-One surfboard), I started to read more about kite surfboards and soon after I found about Alaia boards. I have read all the info I could find on the internet, struggled to source some paulownia planks and one month after I have started to shape my own alaia ;)

176 cm length and 43 cm wide to the most, 1 cm front rocker and 2 rails (sort of Naish Alaia).

Today was the first day I got to try my alaia...and being in the city, I opted for a wakepark (https://www.facebook.com/Zumbaala).

This is one round:

This is the first time on the water:

And another one:

Beside me, other 3 riders gave it a try (none of them ever used a surfboard or ride strapless). All three started on the water from the first try and 2 of them managed to turn at the ends without problem.

Now I can hardly wait to use my alaia under a kite <3

P.S. still work to do to the board....but hey, all I wanna do is ride my board!

Hi!
Is it just the photo, or are the rails and tail really asymmetrical?
Can you share your paulownia source?

Hehe...actually the tail is straight for the time being...after some more tests on the water with a kite, I might make it swallow style ;)
