North Nugget 5,5 2014 strapped in action

Postby haiku » Thu Aug 21, 2014 4:28 pm

Hi. In these days we are discovering more info about the North Nugget 2015. For what concerns the Nugget 2014 here a short video showing its excellent features in light wind conditions (my weight is 75 Kg.):

Sweet vid!. What size park you flying in that? I've got a 7 and 9m now and I'm looking at either getting a 11 or 12 for light wind days. Any advice for a 76kg rider? What size nugget would you recommend?

Same weight here and I have 7/9/12 Park (2014). Couldn´t be happier. I would get a 12 for light wind. I felt that the 12 has a big range and it overlaps very nicely with the 9m equally on a TT and a surfboard.
I just changed from 2013 model to 2014 as they are on sale now and for me the 2014 is really an improvement.
Love the colour scheme of the 2015 models though. Next year...or Pivots.

Thanks Dank, my weight is the same; with the Park 2014 12 and a light wind board like the Nugget 5.5 I can ride starting from 9/10 Knots. In marginal conditions it is very important to adjust the back lines connection knots under the floaters (lower connection more power...).

Dirk I totally agree, I really love the Park 2014 that has been really improved in every aspect including stability and drifting in waves.

Cheers
Carlo

Thanks for the replies!

Dirk, glad to hear the range on the 12 is good. I'm sure if it's anything like the 9 I'll be quite happy. Love the pulley-less bridle, so clean and precise. The 2015 looks sweet but I'd have to say the 2014 definitely has the best colours. Naish always nails the designs.

Carlo,Thanks for the tip about the back lines. I'll be sure to keep that in mind when I pick up a 12. What line lengths would you recommend? I only have a 20m bar at the moment but I really like it compared to a 25m setup I had previously for my old North Evo.

Winston

I ride the 12 with 24m. 20m standard bar plus 4m extensions. In 12 m weather there are no waves here. When the wind is in the sweet spot for the 12 I usually ride TT working on my jumping. The longer lines give me more hang time (beside more low end).
If it is marginal I also ride a Nugget and either 24m or even 27m for more low end.

Hi. Dank I ride my Parks mostly with 24 mt. lines even when the wind is pretty strong. Sometimes, in waves and ideal conditions (steady side shore wind), I remove the extensions (4 mt.) and I ride with 20 mt. lines. Obviously in light wind the Park 12 is way better with 24 mt. lines.

Carlo, your video looks very similar to the one with your Airush Slayer 60 from last year. What would you say is the difference of the Slayer 60 and the Nugget 5.5?

Thanks,
Ralph

Hi. Obviously The Nugget 5,5 and the Slayer 58 (the 2014 model) are two similar boards in flat water. The Slayer is less compact and heavier but better in marginal conditions. The Nugget is a very fun board that also excels in mushy waves. Overall I've found the Slayer a better board in flat water and very light wind. The Nugget is smoother, much more responsive and lively than the Slayer. Both are very stable and forgiving boards, strapped or strapless, jibes and tacks are very easy. So if you ride mostly in choppy conditions and in mushy waves the Nugget is the right choice. Otherwise if you are a heavy rider and/or prefer a directional light wind board for learning freestyle tricks (strapped or strapless) in marginal conditions the Slayer 58 is the way to go. In this regard consider that I didn't try the Slayer 54 which should be more similar to the Nugget 5,5.
Cheers

great, thanks for your reply! I have the Slayer 60 from 2013, great on flatwater, perfect for learning jibes and strapless!
