What happens when the footstrap that released gets lost in the waves and your stuck with a board you cant ride, and a strap you cant find?

Windsurfing straps!!!! Go for it. That will revolutionize the sport.

Sorry dude. The topic in general is nerding out in the face of simple and elegant existing solutions. Your question was off topic and pretty much rhetorical seeing as you outlined your fears in the same breath. Ask a silly question, get a snarky answer. Ask a true query and I think you'll find I can be all manners.

Start your own threat, something like how to keep those boots shiny or something along those lines.

That's an easy one - leash the footstraps to the board (short leash so it doesn't ding you in the head). Thinking about it, the footstraps don't even need to release, just to be able to twist when ankle/knee breaking force is applied, and stay put in normal operation.

So what does everyone think - would just allowing the binding to spin under extreme force help the safety?

Designing a release system for strapped kiting is such a bad idea, that would likely end in increasing the risk to injury, due to pre-release, and non-release events. There are just too many variable forces to account for, in order to develop a reliable system. Definitely not a project for the backyard engineer to go to market with. Unless you welcome civil suits. Good luck

Just came back from decent session all by myself good thing I don't ride boots because there was nobody to lace them up for me  seriously though I am switching to old Dakine straps. My problem is they sell the straps but no old style pads that line up with them. You can't mix new pads and Dakine straps it doesn't work, now what?

You know what this might actually be better for airstyle. You can hold a loose windsurfing strap with raised toes. The modern straps are not that easy to hold or get the feel once they are loose. No problem with wearing booties as it's get colder... looks like win win win. Sometimes you have to go back to progress it seams.
