Great, I thought 9 cm was on the narrow side though. Do you mean because it's 58 cm?

For hydrofoils, the limit for me at 65 kg is
Kite size Wind speed in knots
Low wind limit
19 5.5
17 6
14 7
11 8
8 9

Even if your fuselage look a little too big, you should be able to kite in less than 10 knots.

I spent some hours on my foil this weekend. 4 sessions of perfect nine meter. I switched to my smaller front foil and it seems easier to control the pitch with it, a little slower to pop up too. By the 4th session I was able to go downwind too, kind of. I also got to see many HF models in person. Even though it is as least as strong and stiff as all the models I handled, I've decided to revise my next fuselage design to a more tubular shape so that it looks as cool and sleek as all the others.

I also discovered that tequila has no value at all for learning to hydrofoil .

Good Job there, what dimensions have you made your latest wing to?
ive made a high aspect wing at the moment its about 70cm and a cord from 10cm at root to 6cm at tip.
i know the Spotz is about 55cm not sure what the surface area is on the spotz. mine works out about 644cm/2.

Wing dimension vary so much its difficult to decide the final cut.

Top Tip with the Tequila

this wing is 58 cm and goes from 9 cm at the widest to approx 7 cm at tip. About 460cm2. I will skinny up the tips to 5ish on my next try. It is difficult to nail the final dimensions after adding 20+ layers of glass. I will make molds as soon as I have a standout foils to choose. Choosing is extra tough since I can barely go downwind , and I have only nailed one cool jibe so far. I love being a beginner again !!!

Ok thanks Dirk,

Good to have an idea on what to aim for. I know this is a very personal question and you don't have to answer it online, but how much do you weigh?? :D :D I'm around 90kg dress like the day I was born but with gear on, say towards the 100 kg ish.

Do you need quite a bit of speed to foil with this wing ?
Cheers

That's not very personal , I can do way worse. I weigh about 75. That wing goes fine in light wind.

The totally obsessed guys I met had switched their high dollar rigs to tiny thin custom foils their friend had made. They seemed to work great in moderate wind

Lol so could I  Ok so I make yours to be 6.1333 cm2 per kilo which mine would be 6.77 - 6.44cm2 per kilo with my wing.... Obviously there are other factors involved but this could be a nice way of calculating surface area to weigh ratio! As a guide for new wing builds.
Would be interesting to see how small this number could be.

Just worked it out I could go to 583 cm2 to get to 6.13 cm2/kg there abouts hmmmm very interesting

Thanks for your info Dirk keep us informed

Take it easy easy
