High wind ,give me the rebel...5th line, 5 struts, and leading edge battens all combine to make the Rebel one of the most stable kites in the sky. Depower is excellent, 5th safety is instantaneous. I have never flown an EVO, and have heard they are great, but I am confident it is not better in high wind than a Rebel.
I have almost 80 sessions on my Rebels and have never had a problem with 5th line, in fact it has saved my kites several times in the waves.

Rebel 5m 2012 model is my favorite kite ever. A joy to fly from 25 ot 40 knots. Does everything except unhooked just incredibly well. And self-landing a kite in 40 kn... you'll be glad you have a 5th line.

I have 2009 12m evo and a 2010 8m, and you should stick to the rebel if you are looking for high end. Evos, at least until 2014 (don't know the new model) lacks a good top end.

With my 8 i can start using it at 17-18 knots to 33 maybe. above 30 knots it is quite uncomfortable...

Been flying a quiver all year - only a single invert and no tangles.

those years rebel lack some low wind range, found 6 2011 my best rebel ever.

Any reasons for this? I have flown the 2009 and it flies very nicely indeed. I am aware that the 2012 was also considered a great design. I'm interested in the improvements of the '10 and '11 kites

I prefer having the middle strut, I think it's more stable. With the middle strut the canopy retains its shape well even with lower air pressure. My 2009 was already well used when I got it, so comparing it to my 2012 which I bought new is probably unfair.
