Anyone know where i can find this in the UK or EU? Or if not an equivelent? I've read you can mix acetone in with your epoxy to do a similar job, ie thin out and relieve surface tension.

I get the real stuff and it does a good job at reducing surface tension and the resin flows better for sure. Acetone does thin it but not in the same way and actually for a hotcoat really isn't effective. Before I got F I looked into it and it's not as simple as it sounds. But F probably can't be shipped abroad. Is there not a Resin Research distributor in the EU?

Its mostly xylene and wax from what i can tell. Xylene is a commercially available paint thinner/solvent

...quick question, on the product description it says only use with resin research resins, is that bull just to get you to buy theirs or genuine...in which case, has anyone tried it with West System?

Ok thanks, another one for me to try. I'm gonna try additiveF also just want to know if I should order some resin too or whether the west system will be okay. I've been having probs with my hot coat and from what I've read/been told it sounds like this stuff will help.

west is great
except you have to sand between coats
and scrub off blush
(and still have top coat issues)
and watch it turn yellow
and deal with nastier, more sensitizing hardeners
and pay 25% more
isopropanol is the thinner of choice for epoxy - very effective, flashes off, least toxic.
Additive F, with the epoxy it's made for, gives good results for top/gloss coat.
From my correspondence with the man who makes it, I think it also may slightly enhance secondary bonding by leaving some surface porosity for better key.
When it starts to dry up leaving paraffin globs and crystals, you can replenish it by adding a few ml of xylene.
I think Add F also has some salts in it, not sure just which ones.....
West is still great, and on paper, stronger I think, than RR and some surfboard epoxies resins, but it is more for boat building, where it gets paint or gelcoat on top.

West do a clear top coat hardener. I've never used it. But am tempted to try it. ....
