Agree with Plummet here - these guys can go fund themselves. Majority of us actually have to grind it out in life.

Ok guys you might not have a lot of experience with crowdfunding.
It is not a charity.
They will not get a cent unless they meet their goal. You will not get charged until that goal is met...if you contribute now you basically can get for instance the movie for cheap.
Its not like you are giving them money, more like pre-paying for a product they would otherwise have to fund. Doing it this way is way cheaper as any loan has costs associated. That cost is fronted to you in form of a discount. Everyone wins.
Eree, I'm right with you. I would not just give them money, but I also do donate to the local animal shelters protection group.

Why cant they pay to fund it themselves?
Most of us fully understand what crowd funding is - but my personal desire to fund is for entrepreneurs who are solving a problem in life and giving back or for folks who cant afford a surgery / medical condition for a pet or loved one.
Not for a bunch of dudes to go on a kite binge for a few months.

Hey Tauts - I'm not taunting you, but they haven't really differentiated themselves at all other than calling "the product" a feature film with "passion".
What is the product anyway? I think the film company would say "it's an asset with resale value", I think the riders would say "it's a story of inspiration" and I think professional investors would say it's a boondoggle for the riders to travel around the world kiting with no conceivable return on investment.
The industry sponsorship's 25% is for ad placement. The film companies 25% is for equipment use and logistics. They want the stoke to pay 50% of the bill (for a product that looks just like every other top athlete youtube marketing video).
So then...why?

275 backers! Wow.
I am sure most are just thinking 10pounds is what it costs to buy a buddy a pint after work, so skip it, let him buy his own, and pay for a kite movie in advance instead. Same with the DVD folks, though maybe they are giving up a take out dinner.
For me, no way am I giving to something like this. But if they had a screening locally I'd probably pay a few bucks to attend, so I guess you pay at the start or the end anyway....that's the idea.
I am surprised they don't have a 10000 pledge category where you get to have a guest spot in the film and hang out with the heroes.

Hmm, curiouser and curiouser. I don't mind products in movies, and I guess I don't mind them travelling. I guess if I invested more I'd like to see a better breakdown of costs, but the way I look at it, I can pay $11 now to download something I'd like to see later or like it was back in the day when you paid $30 for the DVD after the cost of financing.
When that is all said and done, boondoggle is a fantastic word. I had to look up the etymology of the word.

Yes indeed Boondoggle is a glorious word.
Another word that comes to mind is "Junket"
