so, do we all think no coarser than 600?
1000 not necessary?
Any preferences of wet vs dry. I have always liked wet especially dipping the paper in a bowl of water with a drop of dish detergent in it. I happen to like Dawn or perhaps her sister, Joy.
thank, m

I am no expert in repairing but this helped me: Put an ultra thin (very important!) drop/layer of cyanoacrylate adhesive (“super glue”) with help of something like a needle into the pin hole and let dry. Some say the right amount of air moisture is important when drying. Should not be too low or too high... Don’t take the gel version but the capillary one. Even scratches can be filled that way. Usually you need to make several layers of ultrathin cyanoacrylate. In between let every layer dry completely. It helped me even for little cracks since the capillary version of cyanoacrylate gets sucked into the crack very easily. Afterwards you can gently level out the excess of material for example with scrapers for Ceran cooking hobs or any other razor blade. It can be sanded and polished just like epoxy. Just don’t know if you can add dye to cyanoacrylate...

All the Spotz 2's I have seen have been painted with epoxy primer and sanded down to seal them and fill the pinholes. None of them have kept the factory finish. I have been recommended to do the same on my Sword 2

I can not believe how much are we prepared to except from a product that costs so much... Can you imagine buying an expencive carbonfiber bicycle frame, and than first thing you should do is sending it down and painting it to hide the imperfections from a factory? Well, i cant...
And what is with the warranty claims after the whole foil has been sended and than something brakes?
Greetings, jaros

You need to be really careful sanding/repairing your foil.
In my opinion, if you're not racing at a high level, don't waste your time. With that said, if you want your foil to be perfect, follow these steps:
1. Always sand at 45 degree angles to water flow. (I'm not getting into arguments about this, it's what you need to do). ALWAYS use something under the sandpaper to hold form. For example, I like to use a sponge).
2. Start with a 600 grit wetsand and just lightly sand the entire foil.
3. Use a nice primer spray-paint (I prefer a light color to see contrast). Spray the entire foil LIGHTLY! If you don't know how to properly spray something.... don't do it!
4. You'll notice you'll be able to see more imperfections after it's painted. If you want, fill these in with a car filler. I just use my finger to do this.
5. Start with 600 again (45 degree angles to water flow and cover the entire foil). MAKE SURE TO USE THE SPONGE.
6. Sand with 800 (same thing)
7. Sand with 1000 (Same thing)
8. Sand with 1200 or 1500.
DONE! You've spent around 4-5 hours and you can now go about 1 knot faster!

Do these pin holes matter if you are not a hard core racer ? Do they affect strength or allow water ingress or anything bad long term ?

Why are Spotz sending out foils that are not perfect?
Did nobody bother to check them before they left??

JON! Thanks for sharing your experiences. What kind of spray paint do you use?

Why spend the effort and money to buy a spotz foil if you're not a hardcore racer?
