i've heard that the shark attacks were increasing because commercial fishing is depleting their food supply making more of them come closer to shore.

Over fishing is decreasing shark population as well.
The reported statistics are that humans kill around 100 million sharks a year, 73 million alone for finning, and the number may be as high a 200 million.
Over fishing is real problem, but I'm not sure it is why we are seeing more shark attacks.
We just have a greater number of people playing in the oceans, so more accidents will occur.

After hitting a bunch of cownose rays with my foil, I found out the ray population is exploding due to the sharks that eat them being overfished. Now because there are less sharks to eat them, the large population of cownose rays are eating all of the oysters.

.......and this just in....because there are less sharks to eat the tourists and fewer people are getting sick from eating raw oysters, traffic on Hwy. 12 is exploding.......it's the ecosystem at work.
