I don't think doors are winners, I own a Nobile Flying Carpet and it's not easy to dig in nor to edge since it's very wide. It goes very easily upwind but I can physically edge and "dig in" far more my Bronq.
That could be. Maybe "edge" is about how big of a rooster tail can you kick up. I don't have a clear idea what the goal of the original poster is.

I agree with Longwhitecloud on this one. I go to my smallest board when I am trying to hold down the most power. My little Shinn Luigi (130cm) is not the smoothest riding board, but it really lets me dig in and hold on when on the upper end of the kite's wind range.

The big fins work, but obviously limit your ability to slide the board around. I got a Shinn Dundee a while back that came with some monster 2 1/2 inch fins. I gave them a try and just about broke a hip the first time I tried a flatwater slide to toeside. Yep, should've known that was going to happen, but had to experience it first hand. I got some smaller fins now that let me go back to my old ways :naughty: and like the board much better.

Is a combination of board shape, fins, rocker, size of board width and height too. Too wide for me is hard to edge hard and or edge fast, also for me these factors would affect my choice of which type of board to buy. Also the correct board for you depends a lot on what kind of conditions you ride, how strong is wind? Flat water, chop or open ocean?

alamos_kiter wrote:The OP question is "What board has the "grippiest" edge ?", not "the grippiest fins". So I would understand this is about board shape, not fins.

If you mount race board daggers on any board, it sure does track like a train. But: you completely change other characteristics of the board, because the fins still work when you get off the edge and ride the board flat, while the grippy edge doesn't.
Normally i see a post by You ; i usually expect some decent content .
What happened , on this one ; you forget your coffee ?

If a guy is asking a question related to grip on a board ; you MUST include
all the factors that influence such , (and fins are a major part of the formula)
and
(except for changing the foot pad location), a fin can be changed , for the Least
amount of money.

Your race board daggers analogy ; that was a bit Over the top !!
For a guy that rides as much as the OP ; a change of just 1/4-inch, (6mm)
in the depth of a fin , can and will make a difference, that He could feel.

I nearly got tricked by --lindseym-- low post count ; but read his profile,
before i answered his question !!

I ride a Shinn Monk 135*42 which I change the fins from 53mm to 57 mm, ton s of grip

I feel tons of grip , carves great, a bit sticky to change to toeside (need to jump). I m not a big fan of tricks etc etc though. Like to carve, downwinders , wave.

Thanks for the feedback all. I have an old Vanguard that I love but find it too heavy. I rode it for many years and the double channels and larger fins pretty much shaped by style. I recently bought a Nomad which is an absolutely amazing board with decent grip but want to add to the collection so im currently researching for other boards. I did come close to purchasing a Carved Imp 5 while in Hatteras but I couldn't bring myself to spending that much, especially given that they did not have one available for demo. Today I tried a Liquid Force legacy. Impressed.

The Lightwave Kick S is hands down the grippiest board I have ever ridden. I have never seen a concave that deep and sharp on a board.

If you want "grip" you need drag. look for soft rails and plenty of rocker. I'm personally not a big fan of this style of riding so I can't say I have tried a thing recent, but jimmy Lewis boards come to mind.
