Beach Landing - Hooked

The Beach Landing is the most stylish way to get back to the beach.

Before trying you should already be confident doing a hooked in jump. You must also be able to go fast and edge your board upwind whilst steering the kite up. These are all essential for performing a Beach Jump.

Before you initiate the jump, loosen your feet in the straps, this will help get the board off easily once you’re in the air.

As you approach the beach slow your speed down a bit. Edge your board upwind and steer the kite up to 12 o’clock, pulling down on the bar no more than halfway to get some lift and airtime It is important to keep control of the jump so moderate your movements.. Once you’re in the air bend your knees and grab the backside edge of your board with your back hand.
As you reach the apex of your jump, pull your feet out of the straps, starting with the back and following with the front. For a smooth landing keep the kite above you and the bar pulled down half way.

To stay safe and avoid injuries it’s important to practice this move in deep water first Once comfortable take it to shallower waters and finally the beach.
Let’s repeat the key elements:

· Slide your feet to loosen the grip of the straps
· Steer the kite up, edge and jump pulling the bar down no more than halfway
· Grab the backside edge of your board and get your feet out of the straps
· Spot your landing

If you’re looking for a nice way to leave the beach, then here’s the Jump Start.

Start by placing the board on the ground in front of you. Step into the binding with one foot first, following with the other. By twisting your foot from side to side, you can secure your feet without using a handle. Lift your toes up to lock your foot in the strap.
Start by placing the board on the ground in front of you. Step into the binding with one foot first, following with the other.

Steer the kite to a 11 or 1 o’clock position and twist your body towards the kite. This is your starting position. To get off the beach send the kite up and behind you, allowing your head and body to follow.
As the kite passes the zenith, push the bar forward. As you feel the lift of the kite, lean backwards slightly so you don’t get pulled over your board.
Once the kite has passed the zenith and travels to a 1 or 11 o’clock position, pull down on the bar and jump off by extending both legs.
Once airborne, keep your body tensed and bring your legs forward. Spot the landing and as you approach the water send the kite down so you have enough speed to ride away.

Always make sure your fins or board are not embedding into the sand or suctioned to the beach, especially if there are small waves.

Send the kite in the other direction and wait for the lift
Jump off with both feet, spot your landing and ride away
