Hardshell harnesses and traveling

Postby alexeyga » Mon Oct 02, 2017 2:29 am

Hey guys, these of you who are using hardshell harnesses - how are you packing it for traveling? Just wondering...

A regular harness with the spreader bar removed can be unfolded flat or reasonably folded and it fits nicely with everything else. Now, what do you do with a harness which has no flex?

I remember - getting a Manera harness just before a kiting trip and the first thing that I discovered - these fancy anti-rotation flaps on the spreader bar - they make it a royal PITA to pack the damn thing, it's just kinda awkward - takes a ton of space which you can't really fill with anything useful... and that was only the spreader bar. Now we've got the whole harness to deal with.

Uh, wrap it around your kite, put in travel bag and you're good to go. Better than laying flat as it partially protects a kite & doesn't take up much room.

If it doesn't fit in your bag, wear it. Take off the hook :-)
I have done just that, though with my large and heavy seat harnesses, just to save on weight. Hardly necessary for a contemporary hardshell.

But it shouldn't be an issue. Just wrap it around a kite, as said.

We wear it untill the over head locker :-)
My son and wife removes the hook, I have carbon spreader so no need to.
Saves place and weight in luggage.

I remove the spreader bar and put the harness in front of the travel bag.
Perfect protection for the nose of my surfboard :D
