North foil vs axis, dwarfs vs northpro

Postby boubou » Mon Mar 19, 2018 12:53 pm

Good day world

I’m not new to kitesurfing and getting into foiling this spring.
I have my eyes on the North speedster. IS there any benefits of this foil over the Axis...beside the colour.

Also the board will be either the dwarfcraft or the Northpro. Again my brain tells me to go with slim and short.
Both are 4’6. What do you think.
The foiling conditions will be Lake Champlain and St-Laurence river in Québec, no wave here just good winds.

Tks

Axis aluminum kite foil, yeah? I think they'll be quite a different ride, if looking at the designs is anything to go by.

There's also a 105x48 Axis board coming too, probably northern summer.

salut boubou

I didn't try the speedster. Sorry I cannot provide feedback for it.

I started last year with the slingshot Hover Glide 24'' mast. My first board was the slingshot simulator 5'6'' with 30L. When you start foiling, a board with lot of volume will facilitate the waterstart and the touchdown.

But when 30noeuds shop received the AXIS freeride, I traded my hoverglide for it. It is much lighter than SS (8.2lbs compared to 11lbs). I also swap the board for the dwarcraft 4'6''.

I think the dwarcraft 4'6'' is still a good amount of volume while being not too big. I will not go with a very thin board (no float) until I can ride and tack efficiently.

As for the AXIS freeride, I was impressed on the first ride with it. Very stable, easy as the SS, and much lighter. I got the additional 24'' mast for shallow water. I am also expecting an XL wing soon (AXIS to release it shortly) which I will use in very light winds.

And what about the color brightness my combo has (not performance affecting but looks nice :D )

Same. I went from HoverGlide to Axis Freeride. I'd only add that the HG really likes going in straight lines and is too roll stable; I imagine wings similar to the design of the HG would feel similar. The Axis is more fun for carving around, more responsive.

The DC 4'6" is a nice board too, I've used one for a session and would seriously consider buying one for a non-lightwind board...
