Speed 2 2007
Two years ago the SPEED already showed its superiority compared to other designs in terms of hangtime and upwind ability. With the SPEED 2 we now managed to improve these characteristics among several others!
Maximum performance paired with the best power/depower-effect currently available on the market!
Regarding the depower effect we succeeded in drastically increasing its effectiveness. The depower effect on the SPEED 2 even outperforms the PSYCHO 3’s!
In terms of hangtime and lift the SPEED 2 also sets new standards!
We also managed to improve the safety system of the SPEED 2. The new Front Line Safety ( FLS ) is now standard on all new SPEED 2 kites and allows the rider to reduce the kite’s pull in a very effective and fast way even outside the recommended windrange or in emergency situations.
The biggest advantage of the FLS consists of the absence of an extra 5th line. However, the relaunch requires more experience than with the optional Full Depower Safetyline ( FDS ). The FDS is available as an optional upgrade kit at the Flyshop and can easily be upgraded if desired. Riding characteristics:
With the SPEED 2 FLYSURFER presents a new light wind weapon. When parking the kite at the edge of the wind window you can hardly feel the kite’s power because of its huge depower. Only when powering up (or sheeting in) you will recognize how early you can go out according to the wind force – even with smaller kite sizes!
The SPEED 2 15m² and 19m² have been fine tuned even more regarding their light wind characteristics. Now they turn even tighter with less effort. You can relaunch the kite almost the same as the PULSE by just pulling one back line in! A fast board with progressive scoop rocker line is almost essential in order to gain the maximum out of the kite’s low-end. You’ll need a DOOR for the maximum low-end performance.
Flying speed becomes a new matter with the introduction of the SPEED 2.
Compared to the SPEED we’ve been able to improve on the already high flying speed. Thanks to the high flying speed and the enormous depower you’ll hardly notice any shearing forces. We’ve also been able to improve drastically on the gliding characteristics. Going upwind has never been as easy as on the SPEED 2 and no kite currently available matches its upwind performance!
The SPEED 2 is a perfect kite for everyone who enjoys maximum hangtime and speed riding!
Unlike its predecessor, the SPEED 2 doesn’t loose power while turning. In terms of the turning radius the PSYCHO 3 still has the lead due to its lower aspect ratio. Thanks to the high flying speed, the increased power per m² and the improved turning characteristics, the SPEED 2 is our new light wind weapon!
The largest size of 19.0 m² (~ 26 m² tube kite) will be again available as a “Silberpfeil”-version with half the weight of a standard 19.0 m² SPEED 2 in order to have maximum fun in marginal winds. With 3 kg it will fly like a feather no matter what you use the kite for – snowkiting, buggykiting or classic kitesurfing – it’s up to you!
As a result of intense R&D we’ve been able to further optimize the kite’s profile so that now the SPEED 2 with its huge aspect ratio of 5.9 is extremely stable with almost no back stall tendencies.
A sophisticated placing of our patented inlet valves enables a perfect flow against the kite during flight and maintains a constant pressure inside the kite which leads to optimal stability of the kite. A constant pressure inside the kite is also necessary to stabilize a kite with so much depower. That’s why open cell kites lack an equivalent amount of depower!
The combination of the enormous depower as a reserve and the very good stability makes the SPEED 2 very user friendly. Even beginners will have lots of fun with the kite.
In terms of durability the SPEED 2 also improves upon its predecessor.
- With wider internal reinforcements and an optimized placing of the seams and our Blow Out Valves ( BOV ) the SPEED 2 is almost indestructible!
- Until today (December 2006), nobody was able to destroy one SPEED 2, not even one of the early prototypes
- We also succeeded in increasing the durability of our fabric for 2007. Now the tear strength of our fabric is by far the best on the market! Stay tuned for more information about this topic!
- Needless to say the Free-Repair.com service will also be available for the SPEED 2!
Others may have better ideas, but a slight tweak of the method in the manual is what I do. The zip (which I thought was big enough) is slightly off center, so I try to sand the opposite wingtip first with the rest flagging downwind. Then unzip and throw the bridle on top. Next fold over the loose wingtip on top or slightly upwind of the sanded one and sand it also. If it's really windy I might throw a harness or something in the middle to help stabilize (even before folding).
That should leave the open zip at downwind end and slightly upward-facing out of the sand. The wind should be "combing" the contained air out of the wing toward the zip, while you go back to the bar to start winding it up. By then or a little later, there should be enough deflation to throw the bar on the tips and roll out the remaining air toward the zip (and rezip). Strong winds can make it hard to start deflating, but goes ok once started.
