Hi Dave, I started foiling with north monos. Had 12-9-7m. I thought they got overpowered quickly and were flapping and jerky in top end, and range pretty narrow. Im sure my novice foiling level was part of it. Then over 2 years ago i got a hyperlink v1 UL 9m. Immediately i was blown away by how smoo...
Agree, carbon inside foam is waste. That layup will be bomb proof. You can get away with one layer carbon twill each side as merl says, but you have to be really careful to not sand through. With that 75kg foam, I put 1 full carbon wrap each side around rail and one deck patch. Ive found nose of boa...
After shaping your blank, Better to insert a 80kg foam block in area of mast, 140mmx200 mm. All the way through. Then drill 25mm holes in hd foam, fill with epoxy. Then use a router to mill down 3mm recesses over epoxy plugs on deck about 40mm dia. Then laminate carbon unid ( or glass if you don't h...
Turned out really nice. Varnish only. 2,5 kg
Its a prototype, I will see how it holds up.
Theres uniD and plain weave carbon under both skins. 15kg foam inside.
I met a french guy at a kite surf school in france 2001 when learned. Asked him why he wanted to get into kiting " well i was into paragliding, the extreme kind where you do tricks and stuff. My fiance told me if i don't stop doing it, she wont marry me. 2 of my friends died paragliding. So kitesurf...
The advantage in motion is the smoother power delivery, no flapping, bigger range. I love my hyperlink v2 9m, but was never super happy with the V1 7m. Too much overlap with 9 and over 20knot on 20m lines it didn't want to move up to window edge, becoming a handful. Bought a 6m kitech FRS and it wor...
I went to St Lucia 2005. On the south side. It was Terrible for TT, too little wind.. But yeah, foil would be great there. Its deep directly. Other thing that was bad there in 2005 was there wasn't any accommodations near the beach, the Cafe hut there took literally 2 hours to make a simple sandwich...
CollageMaker_20210118_231409968.jpg CNC up and running! Cut a logo in cork pad material as first test. I'm super stoked. It was a lot of learning for me with all the electronics and wiring and learning Duet code. At least the CAD/CAM part was easier for me. Machine is Workbee 1500*1000 with 1,5kw a...
But Tom, you did not glass the board!? My TT has 120g FG on bottom. And 200 on top to keep the rocker, plus carbon strips. 120g is invisible. It is a tank. I do not see using 500g for that. But 150g! I would even use lighter cloth, so adding 150g is nothing. Better glas it coz even 18mm might crack...
What are your thoughts on doing a semi-hollow PVC/EPS 60 or 80kg/m3 board, ie. full bottom and deck foam plates but between them, you would glue full length (length wise) strips of the foam? Then board wrapped in carbon? Would that work or not? This would be for building wingboard as there's much m...
