Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

After that, I will see. But not really sure, as I don't have waves here As long as you have a bit of fetch even 12 knots of wind will give you little bumps you can play with. For me that's really my only focus when winging, riding the waves, no matter how small. go around Quail Island, see historic...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

Even mowing the lawn can be made fun. Wingfoiling is a great tool to explore your spot. Sure kitefoiling typically goes upwind faster and steeper, covers more ground, but then you can't have a wee rest in a sheltered bay, you can't get too close from things, can't stop and take pictures of your mate...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

Like in any foiling it’s crucial to keep vector of rider weight/pressure applied perpendicular to the board - in same plane as the mast. Twisting the board backwards and falling towards the wing is no fun. Yes, it's just that those vectors seem to be much "simpler" to align in wingfoil than in kite...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

Thanks for the Input! That's surprising to hear you struggle with jibes (or turns if you don't footswitch). Specially if you can do the same on a kitefoil, and on a skateboard with a wing. Shouldn't be much of a mystery. The big difference for me is, I can go straight downwind for as long as I want...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

I am learning Kite Foil for ~2 years and also started Wing Foil ~1 year ago. Now I am a little more advanced on Kite Foil. On Kite Foil I can do Jibes to toeside and back with ~90% success rate, but cannot do foot switch, yet. On Wing Foil it only works in "perfect" conditions, maybe 10%. I feel a ...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

[… Kite foil …no leashes vs 2 leashes … You probably have a leash/flagout line, and if just you let the bar go you’ll be dragged by the kite Technically yes but if I have a big fall in the water I have 1 thing to manage which is steering the kite - which is above my head and trying to pull me up ou...

Re: Effect of shorter lines to kite’s high end wind range

When riding a small kite on long 25m lines in strong wind it's fairly noticeable that there is a bow in the lines. All that drag on the lines tends to keep the kite a little further back in the wind window. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it can smoothen out the inherent on/off feel of a small kit...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

https://www.instagram.com/p/C4tWEoyIUVp/?igsh=aWMxa3hzaDhic3Rz I believe the discussion was more centered around kitefoiling vs wingfoiling. In good waveriding conditions, kitesurfing is still the ultimate weapon. And so is kiteboarding in terms of jumps and air time in flat water. And of course sn...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

I do both, sometimes on the same day. Different feeling. Reliance on leashes is not really an issue, doesn't bother me. Waist belt coiled leash to the board is out of the way, and a wrist leash to the wing is never really annoying. And to be fair, you need to compare that to having a harness and chi...

Re: 20m LEI Kites - Its Time

I have used +19m kites since 2002 still do, but have learnt to kitefoil, so if it's not more than 16 knots foiling is way more fun than using a huge kite and a TT. Foiling with a 13m kite or less is way more playful and get you going sooner than moving a huge kite on a TT. If you haven't, try it be...
