Re: Ozone vs Core

I'm also in the process of buying my first kite. I'm in Dallas and at a weight of 200lbs I have to take those things into consideration. I will mostly be riding the local lakes and the occassional trip to Houston and other Gulf of Mexico destinations a few times this year. That's at least the plan u...

Re: Hello from Dallas, TX

You might imagine that as the kite gets bigger the amount of movement you make deep into the power zone is going to be smaller. You are going to want to come to terms with the idea of flying a 12-14 meter kite. Getting together with Posrover sounds like a pretty good call to me at this point. I had...

Re: Hello from Dallas, TX

Good2go, my answer to your question is "not very often". By that I mean that the wind needs to be really light for you, as a beginner, to send a 6m kite deep into the power zone on land without getting hurt. On most days with moderate wind, the 6m would be too powerful (even at your size) for you t...

Re: Hello from Dallas, TX

Good advice from jakemoore. I had a lot of fun on a buggy and mountainboard with a 2-line 3 meter foil kite when I was learning. I lived inland and couldn't always get to water, but open fields were plentiful. You can learn a lot about kite control and the wind window playing around with a small ki...

Re: Hello from Dallas, TX

In my eager to learn to kite further, it doesn't matter if the kite is a 4-line kite if those lines do not allow for the kite to be sheeted in and out with the position of the bar. I need to find a small enough kite to fly in low winds where I can get comfortable in flying. When I flew the trainer k...

Re: Hello from Dallas, TX

Hey, good2go. Congrats on taking the plunge with your first lessons. Glad you're still committed. You won't regret it. It's a great sport. A 4-line sheetable trainer is a great idea, but you'll find they are expensive (more than you'd want to spend on a trainer). For example, the Ozone Uno is a nic...

Re: Hello from Dallas, TX

After looking at the options of trainer kites, I realized that neither the 2-line, 3-line or 4-line kites have what I'm looking for: the movable bar. All of these bars are fixed in place. I can already fly that type of kite with control fairly easy, even with one hand. Where I struggle is with the a...

A kiting buddy is moving to Dallas from New York, he told me that locals kite on some lake over there, wind is very gusty but pretty consistent.

Good luck.
Yes, what’s that lake called again?
My lessons were on Lake Ray Hubbard.

Re: Hello from Dallas, TX

Good2go, I'm from Dallas as well and in the same position as you. Shoot me a message with your number and maybe we can put something together during this learning process. I've got a trainer and some other gear I've been accumulating over the past year. Message sent. What I think would be ideal, wo...
