Re: Maui Winds and Rules North Shore

Kihei is good for local area. There is a place where I see kiters and windsurfers go near Lipoa and S. kihei road. Naish/kite beach is the best place to go. For prices on housing.... Are you moving or renting a place for a week? Paia should be fairly cheap. Fast access to kite beach from there. Who ...

Re: Newbie Question

Re: Newbie Question

At first keep your kite at 12 or Close as you get the board on your feet. As soon as board is on you need to use a little kite force by dropping kite a bit to 11 or 1. Use your foot pressure to balance position so your back is to the wind. Another trick is that you can move the bar side to side, bu...

Re: Newbie Question

I have never heard of keeping your board at 12. Your kite should be directly above you, so instructors usually say "keep your kite at 12" for that reason. For a water start your board should be perpendicular to the lines of the kite. A good way to achieve this is to focus on your knees so they are ...

Re: Why buy new kites every year?

While I may be a complete newbie, there are some full redesigns of specific kites. If someone wants the safety and security of buying a new kite to try to minimize anything, or like just having the latest and greatest. Then let them, technically they are supporting the company and allowing you to bu...

Re: First board. Mako 150 or Mako king?

First board? Get a used twin tip, when your riding skills improve buy new. Try many demo boards and ask other riders about their boards, likes and dislikes. Then you will know. I agree with this advice, and unless you are riding in super light wind, a bigger board isn't going to help you go upwind ...

Re: First board. Mako 150 or Mako king?

I own the King, have owned the 140, and ridden the 150 several times. Just yesterday one of our beginners was flailing on a Spleene Door 160 (heavy wind and wave chop) and too small a kite. I gave him my 13m Rev a Mako King and by the end of the day he had arrived as a kiter. He was staying upwind ...
