If Ozbungy is correct, in that a knot reduces line strength by 40%, this is quite significant. Does anyone know the physics of why this is so. I would guess because of the pressure created by the line on itself when force is exerted. If there is no knot, the only force is vertical, if there is a kn...

You should sreiously look into some advanced kiteboarding DVD's. They cover everything you are asking about, go step by step, and also point out the most common mistakes people usually make for each type of trick. In the long run they will save you a TON of time on the water getting it right, and co...

My condolences as well. Regarding helmets, unfortunately they are "uncool" and you are never going to get a general consensus on them, but that aside, most fatalities wouldn't require a helmet if they hadn't been in a stupid spot to begin with. Unfortunately, most fatal kiting accidents lack common ...

Actually, YES it is an EPIRB, just not a satellite EPIRB. If anyone knows you are out and you do not return, it will pinpoint your location.

Hopefully they will make a smaller satellite EPIRB in the future.

The best thing I could recommend is hand held EPIRB but they are pricey. They are no longer "pricey" when you consider their purpose. A few years ago the smallest cheapest epirb you could get was around $400 and weighed a couple of pounds. Now they have a mini eprib for about $150 that is the size ...
