I started kiteboarding this year. As a beginner it is important to have a good ipact vest. I mean I had some big ipacts so far... I have a Maiu Magic vest tha is thick enough and doesn't slide over my neck (if you know what I mean) although I spend a lot of time in water.

hi toby
i use the bump & jump impact vest, together with the prolimit waist harness.
additionaly to some nice features like the rehydration pack that is integrated and the line cutter, it is cut in a way that it does really not interfere with the waist harness.. and its rather thick
of all impact wests i tried, it works best for me
regards

I have the Cabrinha vest w/out harness. (I use a Dakine Fusion Harness.) The Cabrinha vest is OK except that the zipper tends to unzip. I need to retrofit some sort of closure to prevent this problem.
A friend has the Bump&Jump w/hydration. I wish I had that one instead of the Cabrinha to be honest.
The fit is important. So, if you have the luxury to try them on that might be a factor in making your decision.

I have used a GUL "Jump Thermoformed Vest" since last autumn. Excellent fit, no slipping upwards, rigid material...
By the way: Thickness of the vest doesn't mean good protection per se. Many vests (as DaKine, e.g.) are quite soft, more for float than for impact. For better impact protection, the vest material has to be more rigid.

I am using a Hyperlite vest for pro-wakeboarding.
It isn't uscoastguard approved as a floatation device, but it has plenty of both protection and boyancy.
I've been hearing really good things about the Cabrinha vest though. The trickiest part is the protection on the rib areas. The pro-wakeboarding vests don't have a lot of padding on the sides so they don't reduce movements, but I have found (the hard way) that this is one of the most sensitive areas when you eat it kiting.

You're right, most of the wakeboard/waterskiing impact vests have almost no protection on the sides, which make them irrelevant for our sport. Neil Pryde and Cabrinha impact vests sound better fitted for kiting IMHO

How is the floatation of the Bump and Jump vest ? I am thinking about getting this vest, but I really like good flotation in those cases when I am stuck swimming in for a long time.
Thanks
Dave

I found a Neil Pryde impact vest for me, which has this surface detension stuff on it which makes the impact softer.
tested it 2 days ago and I don't feel a thing, which is great!!!
Thx for the infos.
