John - on the 05 kites is the shape of the tip the same? It's interesting that both the prospan kites and wingwing kites have an angled tip, but in opposite directions.

I would be interested to know if Windwing '05 will also use the stiff batten, or will you replace with inflatable bladders?

Seems several brands have come back to stiff battens in '05 , but this makes tight kite packing somewhat laborious.....

Try'n to answer both questions:

Dax; Ya the 05's have sloped wingtips as the 04's do, but slightly longer in length.. They are continuous with the LE. The inflatable tips were a good move in that it made the LE rigid all the way down to the wings. They also helped the "Jumpstart Relaunch" in that the wingtips don't collapse. I don't know why Cab's and Matrix's slope towards the "tow points". There is a lot of energy created at the T4 strut and towards the sloped downward style wingtip that aid in glide, balance bar pressure and improve turning speed.

PMad;

The batten is still provided, however it now can be removed. It is only needed for the SAFE and Jumpstart Bridles to work properly. If you want raw straight fixed power so be it. Hardcore riders might be pleasently surprised at the fixed attachment option.

Thanks,
Windwing R&D

John B, good of you to visit.

The SAFE system graphic and video on your site look really promising.

Does the sytem use pulleys or rings?

thanks......kg

KG;

No pulleys, yes two rings per wingtip and a plastic ball. A three point connection at the tow point including:

Transfer Bridle Line (rear line)
Static Bridle Line (higher LE) attachment
Front or Tow point Pigtail

The plastic ball ties all three lines together neatly recessed and concealed. The plastic ball sucks back to the ring when riding, (using min. sheet range). Extends away from the "tow-point" when the line load is transferred through the wingtip via "the rings". This occurs when extended sheeting-range is used.

In "fo"-terms, a lot of kite tipping going on.

Regards,
Windwing R&D

John, thanks for answering the questions. Its really cool to have someone from a kite company come here and answer questions about kite design, a real rarity.

Look forward to checking out the 05 line up, also can't wait to see how your whole direct sales model works out. Sounds like you guys are bringing a lot of innovation to the table in safety, performance, and price. Very impressive... :thumb:
