iKitesurf scam? Money Laundering?

Postby kitehigh911 » Wed Aug 09, 2006 3:48 pm

a guy sent me 5 money orders for 950dollars and wants me to send the difference back. iKitesurf is good, but i would suggest you only use paypal, or make sure they live in the US. I am in the middle of this scam rite now.

I just got one wanting to buy "the item" I advertized on iKitesurf too.
They don't even bother looking to see what it is they are buying - because
they never intend to take deliver of "the item" . All they want is the
change (often hundreds or thousands of dollars) from the overpayment
by forged cashiers check. The full amount will show up in your account if
you present it to the bank - until the bank discovers it is a forgery then
they take back the funds. If you wire the scammers the overpayment
amount, based on the funds showing up in you account, you lose it.

I'm going to string mine along until I get the check then just keep it as a
souvenir: It costs the scammers quite a bit to have the forgeries made
(they are generally VERY good forgeries) so stringing them on and
keeping the checks is a small blow at making this scam less cost effective
for the scammers. If you're scared they may track you down--this is
organized crime after all, but unlikely as none of them seem to operate
within the country they are targeting--give a fake name and address for
them to send the check.

Don't do it!

I spoke to a guy in the gorge last weekend that got taken for 3K on that scam!!!

I've also notice that spam artists are mining that source for new email addresses.

FYI, give them a bogus email in the field and encourage them to use the Ikitesurf system or pick up a phone.

You wouldn't - but they would still have to pay to have it forged.

Take those checks and go to the police. They may want to pull a scam on the scammer to frame him with evidence, but its their job not yours. Most likely they will burry it in a file and that's about it.

If this scammer is using Yahoo, report the emails here:

You can also report to the postal service:
