Nine-times Kitesurf World Champion and KB4Girls World Tour founder is up for the Female Nominee

TAMPA/LONDON/FORTALEZA, October, 1st 2010: German sports model and kiteboarding poster girl Kristin Boese has received a nomination for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards 2010 for the Female nominees category.

“I am extremely honored and humbled to have been nominated for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award. The nomination came as a big surprise for me, especially since it is the first time that a kitesurfer has been shortlisted for the award. I feel like the nomination is not only an amazing recognition for myself but also for the sport of kiteboarding, especially since it is so new to the family of sailing. I am very much looking forward to attending the award ceremony and ISAF annual meeting in Greece.” says Kristin Boese

Earlier this year Boese secured her mark in the kiteboarding history by being recognized by Guinness World Records™ for the most world championships attained by a woman athlete.

Mauricio Toscano, president of the Professional Kite-board Riders Association (PKRA), said: “Kristin Boese is an extremely talented athlete. She has competed in the PKRA Kiteboarding World Tour since 2002 and through the years she has become an icon in the kiteboarding world, by conquering more World titles than anyone else. As the PKRA world tour has always focused on promoting both the sport of kiteboarding and the riders, it is great to see this kind of success story.”

Earlier this year the German sports model started the KB4Girls World Tour reaching out to aspiring kiteboarders worldwide and strongly supporting the sport of kiteboarding.

“Kristin’s generosity in constantly wanting to encourage and teach other women kitesurfers around the world gives us an amazing opportunity to learn new skills from a world-class female athlete. Thanks Kristin!” said coordinator Nicolea Paul, of WAChickKiters Network, Western Australia.

Next to supporting female kiteboarders with the KB4girls events she has also made it her goal to help protect the worlds’ beaches and oceans that are not only so important for every kiteboarder, but to the entire world population. She partnered with the Surfrider Foundation Europe to glean educational practices and materials to use in her clinics.

Xavier Giamporcaro, chef de projet partenariats et développement, Surfrider Foundation Europe, said: “KB4girls and Surfrider Foundation Europe join forces to keep the ocean clean. Created 20 years ago, SFE is a European NGO dedicated to defending, saving, improving and managing in a sustainable manner the ocean, coastline, waves and the people who enjoy them”.

Boese also is among the athlete ambassadors for the Munich 2018 Olympic Games bid and is also backing the bid by the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) to have the sport included in the program for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

She is joined in the Olympic campaign by Sir Richard Branson, himself an avid kiteboarder, and appeared at his annual BVI Kite-Jam event. She is planning to accompany him on his next attempt at an English Channel crossing.

Interested in humanitarian issues as well the Germany athlete together with Linda Argila just held the first DREAM EXTREME fundraising event in the Hamptons/NY this past weekend which raised well over $125,000.00 that was donated to STEPS and The Retreat, two local programs that work to supply shelter and help for victims of domestic violence. This event solidly proved that twinning kiteboarding with fundraising can prove a successful partnership and was funded.

A strong role model for her sport, Boese has done an excellent job promoting kite-boarding around the world and reaching out to the sailing environment.

KB4girls tour schedule 2010:

Lancing, UK / October 8-10, 2010

ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards

The ISAF World Sailor of the Year Awards were launched in 1994 by the International Sailing Federation. The awards are recognised as the pinnacle award a sailor can receive in recognition of his/her outstanding achievements by the world of sailing.

About KB4girls

KB4girls is a non-profit worldwide clinic tour for female kiteboarders that was launched in November 2009 by Kristin Boese. While the tour gives female athletes from around the world the chance to get together for a fun time together it also motivates them to push their kiteboarding skills to the next level and possibly start to compete in kiteboarding.

Another goal of the KB4girls events is to support the Surfrider Foundation Europe and the protection of the oceans and beaches. While registration fees are being donated to the Foundation educational materials are being supplied in return and given out to all participating girls, teaching them about their precious playgrounds and how to possibly help to protect them.

About Kristin Boese

Sports model Kristin Boese, Guinness World Record™ record-holder and nine-time world kiteboarding champion reaches out to girls around the world to sharpen their skills and learn new riding tricks. The 32-year-old from Potsdam, Germany, grew up behind the iron curtain. A stellar student, Kristin showed interest in a wide variety of sports and ended up playing semi-professional handball for 12 years. In summer 2002 she discovered kite-boarding and within a few months left Germany behind on her way to Fuerteventura/Spain to work at a kite and windsurf center and to dive into the sport which she has very successfully done since.

Boese has also written two instructional kite-boarding books with Christian Spreckels “Kitesurfing In The Waves: The Complete Guide” and “Kitesurfing: The Complete Guide.” She has also published a DVD “Kitesurfing - a comprehensive guide with world champion Kristin Boese.” This is a complete learning program for kitesurfers of all levels.

I think it's fantastic. That's great recognition for her and our sport. I actually read both her books which also are great. She could do are sport well as an ambassador.

A kiting, kitesurfing or kiteboarding, all a part of the kitesports family

cos we use a kite as in kiteboarding not a sail as in sailing

Don't try and rewrite the history of kitesports, you won't get far.

Congrats to Kristin!

It is a HUGE honor to be nominated for this award. The sailing rock star hall of fame. To win this would really be something big, and groundbreaking... good luck to you Kristen.

Well when there's a kiting hall of fame I'm sure we'll be happy to see who gets voted for it. But for now that doesn't exist, so being nominated for this prestigious award as a kiter is a great step forward to wider recognition within the water sports community.

well for sure it'll be recognition for the sport. obviously all the best to Kristin (haha see that pun in there?) in winning the award.

i just don't view kiteboarding as a sailing thing. it's most definitely a boardsport.

how many sailboats jump 30 feet off the water? how many sailboats drop into waves twice as tall as them? how many sailboats use a kite? even in kiteracing, you have a kite and a board under your feet.

yeah sure we all use the wind, but seriously kiteboarders are not sailors.
