Axis boards 2014 and review on TKB

Postby joe weiss » Sun Dec 01, 2013 7:19 am

Yo

I am considering buying an Axis board after trying out the 2013 Vanguard. The deck was perfect but the straps were so so, though I heard that the 2014 straps got upgraded.

I read this- http://www.thekiteboarder.com/2013/11/2 ... uide-axis/

Can anyone tell me if what's written in that article is correct regarding the differences between the Vanguard and the Limited? Because if the limited is snappier and lighter as it says, then I will put in the extra cash as it's price is worth it IMO.
Won't get the chance to try out the Limited before I buy one.

Thanx for any honest feedback,

J

A few days ago at Merimbula Aus. I was lucky enough to put my hands on one.
To be honest I don't have experience with last years pads and straps, but this year they are very comfy. Come to think of it I did hear people say that they are an improvement :!:
The std model is great and the pro model with the Velcro 4 is a dream.
The LTD is one of the lightest boards I've ever ridden and it does feel more snappy and also very precise. The Vanguard seemed more comfortable and forgiving in choppy conditions.

Hope I helped.

Hey joe weiss, how did you find the Vanguard? How soft/stiff was it and how much do you weight?

Yes the limited is definitely lighter stiffer snappier. Something to get used to on really choppy days. I had some issues with the straps as well but when i turned them more duck footed it made all the difference. Now they are almost comparable to my RRD straps with the four velcro straps

Hi wetdog, Currently I have a sweet ride, probably one of the better boards on the market regarding the combo of flex + comfort + performance. I found the Vanguard as comfortable as my current ride but with more performance.
The Vanguard Is on the softer side and weight doesn't really matter because from what i was able to find the different sizes also flex a bit differently, but if you have to know I am 195 pounds of pure muscle 8)

Hehe, alright, about the same as me then. Thanks for the comment, I'm currently looking for a softer board (I read somewhere that the 2014 boards should be even softer), so I guess the Vanguard would be a good choice. Out of curiosity what size do you ride? 135x42?

I ride a different brands' 135/41 board. I love it but the Axis made me have second thoughts

A long long time ago i had an underground board and it was fantastic.
I hope i'll get a chance to demo an Axis board soon.
