Split Boards by Nobile

Postby Dave_5280 » Wed Dec 04, 2013 3:25 pm

I just saw that Nobile is coming out with split twin tip, door, and surf boards. That makes at least 2 majors producing splits, Flysurfer and now Nobile, Has anyone heard of other major manufacturers coming out with a split board? This should eventually drive down prices from the earlier custom or smaller producers.

Twin tip sizes will be: 134x42 cm (76X42 cm ), 137x44 cm (77,5 x 44 cm )

Door size: 160x46 cm (89x 46 cm)

Surf: SIZES: 5'9” - (180 x 48,5 cm ; 98 x 48,5 cm)

Both are made in the same factory. Excellent design idea for the connection and feels great to ride. But , probably not easy to manufacture, so, doubt prices will be going down. If you think about how much $$ they'll save in airline fees and board bags, it's not too bad..

I was once charged $175 one way while traveling with a $200 golf bag and shipped it back for $100 to avoid the fee on the return trip (side note: don't recommend flying with your gear on US Airways). One trip like this and the cost of the board is justified.

The Nobile twin tip U.S. Retail price is $1,099. When the smaller builders started their prices $1,500 to about $2,000 so they are already lower.

We now have 2 relatively bigger companies, Nobile and Flysurfer, with split boards and you have to wonder who else will be next.

I've ridden the Flysplit 134 x 41 for over a month now and it's my favorite TT. I like it so much that I don't ride my laluz 135 or nobile anymore. The board has very good pop and eats chop and whitewater like nothing super comfortable ride. It's very light and stiff in the middle and has flex tips feels like a normal board. As for the price yes hopefully they can sell for lower as production increases for me it was worth it knowing you have your board when you get to your destination and easy to carry in a small car boat or on a bike.

Adventure Kiteboarding had some of the Nobile split boards arrive earlier this week. We're working on making at least an overview soon and probably have some actual feedback in a few months as our water season is all but over. We also are going to take some time to compare airline fees and how many trips it will take for this "more expensive" board to actually be saving you money. Stay tuned...

Airsurfer, how much do you weigh? I was hoping FS would offer a little larger size without going to the door type board. How has the connection system held up withe the pins and lines that attach to them.

I like the design of the Nobile connection system a little better since it looks cleaner and on top of the board vs the edge. But neither systems are quicker and don't require tools like prior split boards by others.

Dave I weigh about 90kg and the board has very good low end I can ride from 14kn easy with edge 9m and 10kn with edge 19m. Construction is top notch and the connection is solid. The pins are a bit tight and easier to pull out then to put in so I usually use a tree or some fixed object to push them in but id rather them be tight then loose. I like the graphics too.

If not rinsed in sweet water, will it still split after a few days ?
