yeah, that (Spleene Zone) is still one of my favorites...and was probably a great choice of board for this guys adventure...

Someone must have tried this Zone/Foil combo by now??? so please give us a report!! It would be nice to have a board that rides so well with or without a foil.

This past season I picked up foilboarding...(after 14 years of kiteboarding it was at first quite a challenge... 60 y/o and overweight... Lol)

Well, maybe by luck or not I ended up on a carrafino.... But already after few season the stock carrafino board started to desintegrate..... First I was thinking of repairing the board, but then a friend of mine told me to go to my kite storage and look around among all my old boards...
We decided to use an old spleene zone.... Just drilled 4 holes and voila...
It is for me much better than the stock board... Even in lite wind .... Waterstarting works like a charm...
As Rainer mentioned: when you waterstart the board just sinks down into the water a bit and therefore it is much easier to get up!

for many reasons I don't like foot straps or hooks... But at first the little mushroom (flip-flop technique di facilitated waterstarting and staying up on the board a lot.
A few weeks later I notice that the screws had indented a bit on the relatively soft sandwich surfboard... So I simply added a big aluminum plate to distribute the forces better on the board.

Well, with this board and foil I was so happy, that I will soon upgrade to a new zone 5.3 and hopefully the already made inserts will let me allow to use a Levitaz foil.

I will let you know about this combo....

Oh dear . . . that last pic is amazing and yet I find it hard to believe that you would do that to the zone

I suppose you can still use it without the foil if you want to. I would struggle to do the same to my zone as I love using it too much.


Do you have any pics of the inserts you put in the bottom of the board . . . and how the foil is attached now?

That was easy....
NO INSERTS

only 6 holes.. an alluminum plate on top and below the board for some extra strength and 6 bolts....
It is really amazing how much easier waterstarting this board is as compared to a stock foilboard...

Not sure I would want to do that to my dear 'ol vintage 2007 Zone either...but I am still very interested to learn which foils works best with the new 2015 Zone.

I guess Rainer Kauper can tell us soon regarding the foil for the new Zone. It´s prepared with inserts, foil-ready.

I am interested in the new Zone 5' 3" size.
I would appear that it is meant to be the board for lighter winds and smaller surf, of the two Zone boards offered.
If anybody has experience with this board, please tell me what you will.

I have the board since August 2014, it´s very easy to go with, early planing and easy to jibe, even for beginners learning jibes on a directional. Used it in smaller waves in Denmark, up to 2m, but I have no doubts that it works also in bigger waves. Carves very well with it´s "foam-edge", rel. light (3.9kg) and no problem with rocks etc. with the robust construction in snowboard-technology.

Overall I cannot find anything bad on the board, just excited about how it works with a foil.

The length is 160 cm / 5' 3" ....pretty short for a surfboard.
The width is 49.5 cm / 19.5 inches ....so not really super wide either.
Does the board take as much power (or more or less) to plane and go upwind as an average 5' 8" kite surfboard?
Like a Slingshot Celeritas 5' 8' or Naish Skater 5' 9" or whatever.
