Looks like they can still put some time on ergonomics, too many sharp edges on the outside.
This is what I came up with: a wichard converted to a push release that clicks on top of the wichard to prevent accidental release:
Downside is that you need to block the build in swivel to prevent it from releasing when you twist the release knob and that adding a swivel adds some additional 70mm. But in total still shorter than a small chickenloop and if you can manage it without swivel it is really minimalistic!
It has a lower release load and it safer for your hands than those pin-ball solutions.

I wrote to Wichard, and pointed out it would be possible to redesign the Wichard to completely replace the chickenloop funcionality, but I got no reply and presumably they were not interested. The kite market is probably quite small compared to their other markets.

I still think the BRM solution is the simplest, easiest and safest.
If you really need a swivel then any rated marine swivel will do, just add it in between the harness attachment and the release.

Yes, BRM system is brilliantly simple. However, no trim, no swivel, makes it less universally appealing for non-Cloud kiters.
Ergonomics on Episwiss does seem a bit angular at first glance however upon closer inspection the edges are actually nicely rounded.I have not seen the device in person and I'll admit the shape was a bit unexpected and it is pricey, but it is purpose-built and knowing Episwiss, top quality. On the plus side, the ball-bearing is said to be super smooth and untwists lines mostly on its own. Notable too is how the total release ball, the small one, is nestled inside the device to prevent unintended total release (sounds like a medical problem), something BRM bar users have mentioned before as an occasional glitch.
Not to sound like fanboy but the price does include the trim system and two options for attaching the release to the spreader bar.

What is the state of the art chicken loop in the industry today? Small chicken loop (North), fireball (Cabrinha)? I see more half of kiters foiling in 3 out of 4 locale spots I visit who I assume never disconnect, so why insist on disconnecting the kite with this ancient and awkward connection method - CL? There are contenders to take this space; for example, why not to make 10x10 cm rope click winding system (North click bar in box) and place it where CL was?

Here is my below the bar swivel using a modified 6mm "Jaw and Eye swivel" on the Jaw end of which is the standard 6mm ID Dynabar wheel. It has a 4mm x 25mm D ring welded onto the Eye end of the swivel. I never unhook so use a Cabrinha QR. I prefer a separate safety rather than the BRM type release. The wheel is normally hooked over my harness rope of course.
A chicken loop also goes through the D ring no probs.
Here's an unmodified Jaw and Eye swivel.
