Hi, I'm starting a Kite School under the IKO Teaching System, however they will not insure me in the UK, does anyone know any insurance companies that will insure a Kite School in the UK?
Many thanks.

BKSA might insure you. but they will probably want you to be a BKSA school.
Where is your school starting up?

Let us know how this goes, and what they cover.
Do they cover injuries incurred in locations where kiting has no ordinances for or against it?
Do they cover third party injuries not on the school property?
Under what exact conditions will claims not be allowed?
Ask them for some names of folks who have filed claims and find out how things went if possible.

Try Bridle Insurance Brokers...they sorted us out for liability cover. Fortunately have not had to claim so hope that stays as it is.....

+1 for becoming a British Kitesports school and then using the British Kitesports instructor cover.
If you are more than a one man band instructor and have a "school" then Apollo (the BKSA's brokers) can also help with the "school" part of the cover e.g. the mandatory employee liability cover (if you have an employee).
Either way I would recommend checking with Apollo re scope of cover.
Quite apart from the insurance if you are in the UK it is good to support British Kitesports because of the work they do on beach access, liaison with RSPB/Sport England, youth development, public service advertising etc etc.

IKO is a waste of money. unless you are going to host instructor training courses you are just throwing away your money. I was an iko school for 4 years. I had some problems and tried to contact them with dozens of phone calls and they would not talk to me. the only thing iko is good for is their stupid little cardboard cards showing a riders level. occasionally I get a student asking for one. I usually have an iko instructor who can write one out for them without the added expense of having to pay club membership fees.
if you want insurance you need to look up sudwestring. they were an insurance company that iko used to recommend but now they have nothing to do with iko. I heard a story iko was wanting a kickback and sudwestring would not pay it. iko does not even seem to care if you have insurance any more as they don't make money off it.
if you are in the uk I would strongly recommend you become part of the BKSA. I have nothing but good things about this organization.
I am still trying to get my fees refunded from iko. don't make the same mistake I made, save your iko fees for something more beneficial to your club.
