Epirb/plb What do you use

Hey men,

I'm thinking of getting a plb for remote solo kitesurf sessions and for mountain bike rides in the whop whops.

What's your recommendations.

That looks ideal. But at the same time insanely expensive. Any idea on cost? I'd be looking to spend $300 ish.

For a cheap option, get Toby to implement some kind of algorithm into KF that if it fails to recognise any new posts starting with 'so....' or containing such words as 'smashed', 'sweeeeeet', 'punted' etc over a certain time period it will automatically alert search and rescue.

plummet, I'd give the SAR services in your neck of the woods a shout what frequencies they use, as you want to combine land & sea. Then look for devices.

I have a McMurdo Fast Find Ranger PLB which is the same as the 220, just in a more rugged looking case IIRC.

They will have all my details when activated. Absolutely all relevant information.(please send prince William for example)

It was free to register here in Britain and I have my certificate and sticker to confirm it was registered.

I went against Spot because it was a private company who gets your distress signal. PLB in Britain goes to the UKMCC and co-located Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre.

As far as I was aware, you couldn't register a PLB in NZ or Aus.

Certainly, as more and more snowkiters find themselves flying alone, it could be a vital gadget.

Spot has some nice convenience features but has some significant limitations compared to true EPIRBs. This is a good thread:
