Ikea shopping bag. Cost $1.25 US. Just add sand. Works perfectly. Splurge and buy two, give one to your buddy.

I love this idea for sand anchor. I buy these bags for my wet wetsuit etc. One could put a carabiner or S-hook on the handles (and even leave a scoop or shovel device in it for wet sand with glass/shells).

I use the sand diaper and it works very well. Really like that I don't have to deal with any sharp edges.

I busted out and bought a Sandshark Ultimate. I did buy it primarily for anchoring my boat when we beach on the sandbars. I did want it to tether launch kites as well. Sure it's kind of spendy just for a kite tether, but it's nice knowing your kite CAN'T pull the anchor out. This thing is full 1" stainless steel shaft auger that drives 3' into the bottom. It's held my boat in low 30 mph winds without wincing.
$199 isn't bad for something that's keeping my boat's hull damage free, launching kites remotely and will likely last forever.

Poacher that's a really nice find. I also have a small boat and that looks perfect for it and as a kite anchor. I've been using normal anchors for the boat and always drop two down because one will almost always drag. For the kite I've been using a cheap 18" PVC beach umbrella auger. It has held the kite reliably so far, but I still don't put 100% trust in it. This Sandshark auger looks great. In fact, there's a local boat show here in Raleigh NC this weekend... I will go see if I can find one there.

FWIW, I just ordered the Ultimate also. It was tempting to get the cheaper HD version, but I figured bigger is better (and the adjustable length is better) and the extra price is worth it to secure an $18k boat. Shallow water anchoring is all we do and this will be way better than a finicky traditional anchor. That said, I will likely also drop a normal anchor off the stern... big boat wakes in the ICW tend to push boats back onto the sandbars, so you need something on both ends of the boat where I often go.

Hey IBKite, you won't be disappointed with the Ultimate. For the few dollars it was to get the heavier duty model, why not. It beats $1500 for a Minn Kota Talon and I can take it with me for solo missions.
FWIW I think Sandshark was doing $199, free storage bag and shipping. Get the bag too btw. Otherwise that thing is weapon laying around the boat.
