Was it a complete tear ,a partial tear or was it caused by patellar tendinitis ? Surgery? Cast is on for 4-6 weeks then everyone has their own recovery time.6-12 months is normal.Sorry!

full tear and surgical repair. but no cast. I'm in a straight leg brace for the first 2 weeks then got to go back and have the dressing changed. they said theyre going to change the brace then aswell for one with partial movement and gradually over the weeks adjust it for a greater range of movement.
I suppose I can do 6-12 months recovery as I don't want to rush it. ill just have to do buggy freestyle for a year!!

Those stupid doctors don't seem to know anything anymore!
(someone can insert the usual "I'm looking at you, USA" reply when it's convenient)

I'm not in the usa and with the blame and claim culture, everybody over estimates and give you the worse case scenario. I was just looking for a real world timescale from somebody who has been through it themselves

In my experience you're looking at 3-4 months to get to a usable state. 7 months before it feels really solid. (Although usually it seems 12 weeks is sufficient healing time if you're in good health with no issues) 12 months before you feel 100℅ and up to another year before you don't think about it.
Depends how things are reattached too. Did they reattache two torn ends or one end with a bone plug or other anchor?
My bet is there will be some scaring in there that you'll need to stay on top of as it heals.
What did you do C?

That's a shame, speedy recovery!
Gotta ask, why do people landboard when there's water nearby? Landboarding doesn't look or feel that great if you don't go really high but then it becomes dangerous as well. While landboarding it's easier to bust a knee or ankle to my mind; the wheels don't give out at all (I mean slide much) if you land incorrectly, while on the water you can (at least in certain situations) prolong the jump or land on your back etc. if needed to lessen the hit. Well, that's my opinion but food for your thought.
