What's in your wave kite quiver?

Postby NHKitesurfer » Sun Oct 16, 2016 2:08 am

What size kites do you have in your wave kite quiver? What are typical conditions where u ride and how much do you weigh?
(I'd start this in the wave kite section but it does not seem to get as much activity)

12m OR Prodigy
10m/8m OR Razor

Thinking of moving to a Prodigy in 8m as well, like the Razor for 10m for freestyle/boosting. Love the new 12m Prodigy for drift and stability.

If I have too many kites, I find it difficult to decide on what size kite to take. So this year I narrowed it down to 7 & 10m Switch Element 5,s.

Typical conditions, 15-20 knots cross/ straight onshore.

I ride prodigies, 7, 9.5 and 12. Seem to be popular on this forum. I ride a 5.0 hb anti, strapless board.

To be honest, i bought the 12 for holidays. We have windgenerated waves, when it's 12 meter weather, there aren't any waves.

77kg/170lbs

Big kites not used in waves, wont list these as not the topic....

For waves:

9m2 Takoon Furia
8m2 Takoon Furia
7m2 Takoon Furia
6m2 Takoon Furia
5m2 Takoon Log
3.5m2 Takoon Log

Using normal 5'10 - 6 feet pointy nose thruster fin waveboards.

Waves from 2 feet to 15, local areas, sideshore or even better slightly sideon can be found whatever the wind direction.
Winddriven swells with good fetch in some directions, or crappier windwaves in other spots.
Wind from 0 to 40 knots all year, nothing "dominant" really, but lets say 10 to 25 knots the most common.

The 6 and 7m2 and when lighter the 8, are the most used sizes in waves :D

All the bigger (not listed) kites above 9 are for hydrofoiling or jumping fun or similar, but a 9m2 is used on rare occasions when light wind in waves/waveboards.

8) Peter

PS: How the h... can you guys ride waves with 17m2 kites ??? I am impressed I must say, but must be the different conditions we have.
Even with a 9 going DTL in fast turns are not very good IMO, no matter how fast or drifting the kite is, so we hardly ever use these big sizes close to 10m2 here for waves, thus these bigger sizes are used for TT jumping/freestyle or other boards and not used for waveriding here.
