GoPro Session Waterproof enough for kite impacts?

Postby Slappysan » Tue Nov 21, 2017 2:59 am

I just wanted to get some more opinions on people using GoPro Session for kite video, as 10m depth rating is a bit on the light side of things for the speed we kiters impact the water.

This thread has a couple accounts:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2393954&p=947383
I have literally used this camera all year kitesurfing and diving and havent had an issue as preciously stated
Had a Session for a year now kite boarding. Its been working great.
*Leaks in housing- the strong splashes forced through the edges of the door - Was a faulty housing as it turned out and GoPro sent me a new one
Anyone have anymore info to share about Session waterproofness?

I've had my Session 4 for almost 2 years and have kited with it a bunch... no problems yet at all. I'd like to suggest though that if you are crashing really hard that you find a super secure way to mount it.

Same, I've had it for awhile, but I mostly use a line mount or some sort of mount on my body, not the board. The board angle is kinda pointless and that's how I lost my original GoPro

You should be OK. It worked for me so far. It is also light and small, good for line mounting. The ability to rotate it 90° in the housing gives you nice wide horizontal shots (or turned 180° after kite transition).

Check pictures from step 6 on.

Just make sure the door is secure, and no sand or debris is on the gasket.

I have one of those, but per my usual habit for cams I will not use it. :(

Do you need to put silicone grease on your door gasket regularly?

I have never had to do any kind of maintenance like that other than keeping the gasket clean and putting RainX on the lens to avoid water spots in my videos. The little door closes tightly and securely.

Absolutely NOT. I killed one while it was mounted to my helmet and took falls at speed.
It had been used fir 6-7 sessions. I googled it and many problems with water damage.

If you keep it on your lines, your probably ok.

I am very tired of companies making ATM 5 products for dynamic watersports.

No problems with the first version of the Session with a helmet mount kiting, or skiing (and surprisingly good battery life skiing in cold temperatures).
