This is Safari on a MBP.

Red or Green?

The banner add in the middle of two columns interrupts the flow of reading. It might work if it were one column of text or if the banner adds were aligned with the text at the left edge. It would best if the banner was in a footer or sidebar.

Also just a suggesting regarding ads related to a pet peeve of mine on many sites. I think it happens on KF too. Sometimes as I click a link to a next page I see an ad that I want to click. Most of the ads are reruns and I have already determined they are not a match for me. But rarely that one ad pops up that I want to see and usually it happens as I navigate away. Then when I do the back button on the browser, there is a new set of adds. The website content is the same but the ads are refreshed. I see only the rerun ads that I don't want, and the one ad I want to click has disappeared. Maybe I click around the website hoping the ad reappears. Or if the ad made enough of an impression I can search for it on Google and find it. But if this happens, the website loses the revenue. So ideally in my mind, ads would stay static on the page for at least one browser session, allowing the same ads to appear when the back button is pressed. New adds would continue to refresh at a slightly lower frequency or for example appear on different pages.
it's the green way.

But never mind...this will be changed soon to one block with topics only.

regarding the banners I will see what I can do.

Thanks
Toby

Empty white space is marked with red circles.

Buttons/Links with 2 are redundant.

Buttons/Links with 3 are redundant.

Use empty spaces and get rid of redundancies to get more content to the top of the page.
better now?

never mind the more space below the banner...that will be changed soon as well.

Yes I saw that. But not so "easy" for me.

Accessing 'User Control Panel' always requires me to sign-in again (even though I'm already signed-on!) and then click through several more pages to get to the list of my bookmarks.

For those of us in remote locations with poor bandwidth this process can take 15-30 sec or more - not a pleasant experience and not "easy".

It would be much easier to have a link to my bookmarks under 'Quick links'! Isn't that the purpose of 'Quick links' ???

will check if we can change that.
Thank you Toby!! It's done and I'm happy!!

Thanks for the site. It provides an awesome space for likeminded people to exchange ideas and stories.

My suggestion would be to take control of the space on your website. Screen space, especially on movile devices, is scarce. The mobile view of this site barely gives any content on the first view (see screenshot attached ... Or look on your phone :-) ).

How about getting content on two thirds of the first view and keeping the one third for commercial, etc. ?

I understand commercials may be necessary and I won't make this an issue (however, three blocks on each page is not low). Still, there is lots of space that can be reclaimed simply by rearranging and removing unnecessary and duplicate content.

This probably isn't a five minute task, but the site would greatly profit from that and underline its professional aspiration.

Thanks!
not perfect...the white space in between will be taken care of with the complete top redesign coming soon.

note: banner gone! so, better to wait and see...

we updated the spot section.

took out tools no one needs.

Here the important changes:

- no more logging in on the spots site
- now you can add spots, edit spots and upload pictures without any login, but you need to verify all by using a captcha picture selection. Unfortunately needed, since we have to protect us against spam
- find "Add Spot" and "Search" in the top navigation

here the mobile view:

Sorry Toby, I don't like the way the forums are shown now at the main page, too much space wasted.

Toby!
This is a mess :-?
It's very hard to tell if the forum name belongs to the upper or the lower link...

A golden rule in UI/UX design is "don't make the user think"

I assume you already saw the changes :D

Thanks to your suggestions we have now a really nice and clean overview on the home for the latest topics.

It's a list of the latest 30, in two columns with each 15.

On mobile view it changes to one column with 20 topic names.

For the ones who are used to one click to enter a forum, you can use now the forum name in front of the topic names to get to the forum.

Clicking on the topic name will take you directly to the topic.

We added more space between the lines, so clicking on it with bigger fingers on a mobile is no problem anymore.
I tested it with my quiet big fingers on a relative small screen and had no problem.

The font is still blue, but once we will change the header of the site we will also change all text colors.

I hope you like it!

And again, thx for all your input :thumb:

There are few problems right now:

the latest should show on the left column first...looks like it goes from left to right etc...
and when clicked on the topic link you land on the first page of the topic...not the last like it used to be.

Will be fixed tomorrow!

"Liking" (thumbs up) or "Disliking" (thumbs down). In many cases, people want to commend what has been said but dont want to necessarily "reply".
Just "liking" (thumbs up) would do.

They removed the thumbs down from the Australian site Seabreeze because people had their feelings hurt, and they just left the thumbs up. Sadly I find that a accurate barometer of modern society when everyone only wants to get thumbs up.

It ended up being cyberbullying -- one or two guys got max red thumbed anytime they posted. It was embarrassing.
