summer kite spots near Haliburton (Ontario, Canada)

Postby Gyre » Sun Jan 13, 2019 12:19 am

Think I've exhausted the usual routes for answering this question... Anyone done any summertime kiting near Haliburton (Ontario, Canada)? That whole area is dotted with lakes but I can't find any info about which ones are kiteable.

This is for summertime, on water. Cottage country. It's probably all frozen now which makes it easy to find launch spots, but summertime will be tight!

A good friend has a place on boshkung. He has kited it, but it’s not worth the effort. Wind is very gusty, and switches directions. Chase boat is a good idea. You might get lucky and find a lake/spot that works. Cheers

Thanks both. irwe, that site is great -- can't believe I missed it. And yeah I'm expecting pretty bad wind conditions on those interior lakes, but I'm going to be in the area anyway so might as well try.

Maybe a boat launch from middle of the lake in Haliburton. As previous poster mentioned, those lakes are small with gusty, swirly wind.
About 90 minutes SW by car on the east side of Lake Simcoe at Lagoon City or 9th Concession are popular spots for catching the prevailing SW, W and NW winds. Beginner-friendly except need to drift launch.
