Board rescue

Postby taabsr » Tue Jan 15, 2019 10:21 am

When I started all of us helped each other to rescue boards. Nowadays I see people pass by the boards and not retrieve them. Most times when I ask them they just say they never tried or feel comfortable. But most of them are independent riders with enough level to do it. So I decided to make this video showing 7 steps to recover a kiteboard. Hope it's helpful and that the next time you try to bring the lost board of your friend back to the beach. If you want to become an IKO instructor, this is a skill you need to show at your training.

i find people to be nothing but helpful in the gorge. I have saved boards, and had my foil and kite saved.

Nice, can you do one for kite rescue? That seems trickier and more dangerous.

Half the time I try and go for a rescue its with someone that has ventured out too deep, can't body drag upwind efficiently and then decides they are best parking their kite right above the board at the last minute. Nowadays I'll only rescue it if the board is more than 50m away. The other problem I find is that their board doesn't have a handle and they have size 3 feet! I guess I retrieved 4 or 5 last year that would likely have been lost or a bloody long walk for someone.

Thanks for the videos- if you can cruise all day and stay out of the water- you should really know how to do this.
