Was playing around on NX CAD program trying to learn it. Designed this foilboard as an exercise.
Ive been thinking of making boards in balsa wood

Was out last Saturday in 4c. On my Hyperlink 9m, pretty choppy too.
it took a few starts to get used to it and 20 min or so to adjust to such a short platform. But mostly the start technique is different. Have to pop up almost directly.
At speed if I bring board down to skim or bounce it in flying foot transitions, it skims great.

Very pleased with it. Can definitely travel with it.
But if you're not trying to cram it into a hockey bag, I'd say a 100-120 is better pocket size.

I'm starting a build using balsa wood as core material.

how are you gonna do the balsa? laminate sheets together or another way?

I've bought planks 100*10*0,8 cm then edge glued together with CA glue. I'll then vacuum bag 3 layers 8mm with an additional 2,5 mm layer of " heavy " balsa to deck.
I can get various thickness and 3 different densities of balsa from local RC model supply.

I'll vbag them to a rocker form..

Not sure it will work.

Typically end grain balsa is used in composite sandwich construction.

Really high performance but a pita for any shaping as it tears away from the scrim backer. You might add some foam rail that are shapeable and get a nice core that way.

TomW - just out of curiosity, what did you pay for the bigHead inserts? I reached out to the US Distributor and was quoted about $12 each for a minimum order of 30. That was for a M8 x 15mm. For a 100+ unit order the price is about $6.50 each. I didn't expect them to be cheap given that they're made in the UK, but wasn't expecting quite that steep a price. Ouch...

I have sourced more conventional 316 stainless T-nuts at just over $1 each and am hoping those will be enough.

Tom,
what's your stance width?

For 633 my rear foot is directly above rear mast plate bolt and from outer toe to outer toe it ends up in 30" or so
