So to add in to the knowledge base... Rodanthe is way too shallow. We took a jet ski out and its 3' for at least a quater mile. The guys ar Real suggest body drag out to their wind meter...thats a quater mile out. There still is the hole in the south ish end in that private neighboorhood. Yesterday i was in Frisco ocean side and had the ride of my life...on shore wind, on shore swell that was waist to head.. Getting out was intense but i survived!
Foil on!

Like IanNJ said, a quarter mile out. Maybe it's just me, but a quarter mile out on sound-side off Hatteras Island isn't that far. And you don't need a jet ski to get there. Just sayin'.

Yea that spot in avon works. On a south wind the sound is deeper today i foiled from Pappy Ln. In Rodanthe up wind to Kitty Hawk and all over that area. About 200 years out was good if you can get right up on foil without screwing around.

I am assuming you have never been to Hatteras. There is no muddy water, unless you are way back in the marsh. AFAIK there has been one GW attack back in 1957, in all of North Carolina.

I have been a couple of time. And the water on the sound side doe not match my definition of "clear water". If it is more than 1m deep you don't see the bottom...

Ian....the water levels were really low the last 2 weeks, but I was also able to ride from the ship wreck and all around the channel markers towards Kitty hawk last week. If the tide is higher, it works. Low tide and northerly winds blew a lot of water out and made it really shallow at times.
Surf boards, twin tips and foil boards. man....what a blast.

I am going over the same issues...I wonder if it wouldn't be better for a large TT or light wind directional than a foil in the sound. I would hate to body drag out a half mile, then wreck my foil into something and have to get all that gear back to shore.
