ahhaha classic. Plus good foil skills in the waves. Seemed like a real short mast.

I'f I ever go to a carbon foil, I'll no doubt mount it to a carbon skim that kites well on its own.
That would be the ultimate combo for a set up with no compromise as either a foil or a skim.
With wake and now finned surf oriented skims, they are evolving into really viable kite boards for places with less than head high waves. Also great aerial boards in everything from lagoon flat to shorebreak to lake swell.
Both the el stubbo and shinnster are good factory options for skim inspired foil hybrids. I think mark shinn took a good approach to retain the flex when riding without the foil so neither is compromised.

How have you all solved the floatation problem when using skims? In the lakes around MN, late in the season we get some pretty thick weeds and algae that will eat your foil and twice last year they submerged and couldn't be found.

Double the thickness of the deck pad, and cover the entire board.

And that's all it takes to float a piece of wood eh? I'll see what I can do

Looks good man. Hows the flex? If it flexy slap some carbon on there.

The foil is carbon over glass and wood core.
Installed front straps but may not use to start with.

That's working well for mine with an alloy foil.
The one pictured above is wood core so likely won't require as much flotation from the board.
