Deck grip

Postby TomW » Sun Jan 06, 2019 10:00 am

I'm running out of deck pad for my builds.

Anyone use Hexa traction? What do you think?

My pads weigh about 300g, and that's dry..

Peel ply gives a nice grip that isn't too abrasive yet still grippy enough for foiling.

I've been using it for more than 1½ year on my most used board.

Like it a lot, it weighs close to nothing and dont soak water, you can see your deck (or airbrush if you got one) fully clear and it does not get dirty either.

It is NOT as grippy as a typical soft pad though, nope - but sufficient grip.

My concern were if it got worn too fast, so I got a set of extra hexagons to replace worn ones, easy.
Particularly the front foot position could be worn fast just like on surfboards where the wax gets worn in just one session sometimes

But havent replaced not even one yet :thumb:

With shoes the grip is a lot better, barefooted a tad less as said, but found it to be just fine for foiling.

Clear and clean and doesnt interfere "destructive" with your board surface, and low weight

Can hardly be seen (board on the left)

When finding the very right angle in the light, one can see the Hexa Traction

Can recommend these, unless you seek something super grippy and shock absorbing of course.
Regarding long term durability, I can not say for sure eventhough mine has lasted till now, but different riders might wear/load very differently.

I agree.
You do not need or want want soft 'cushion' pads for foilboards.
It gives you a better feel of the foil.
It also works with straps :-)

Ive tried hexa and NINE other types of stick on grips.
They all work.....and some better than others.

But HANDS DOWN the best so far is WAX MAT by surfco.
Soft grippy silicone and you can cut into any shape you want.

You can order it from Spacestick but you will have to email for prices as they have sold out of the last 3 runs of grip in under one month.
Although the product has been officially released it is very hard to find.
And you can find a few youtube videos.
I have ridden it for 2 years and ZERO complaints

Drop and email about the 18" wide strips you can get in any length

NY- I have periodic plantar fasciitis also. It makes it worse to be barefoot and on hard surfaces.
Might give the Hexatraction a try

I enjoy the hexatraction but as said the grip is a little less. I like to augment with pads to give a little more grip and also help me know where my feet are. The surfboard I use most is mostly covered in a pad but I have some hexatraction pieces between the pads so there is some grip over the whole board.

I have an Alaia with mostly hexatraction and a small pad where I like to put my front foot and an arch bar for my rear foot.

On the Alia I cut my pads out of this: IUGA Yoga Mat Dual Color
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078DZ9BRD/

It has a great balance of squishy feeling, low water uptake and wet traction. I've had it on just a few months so hard to say about longevity.

On my next surfboard I'm going to put a line of hexatraction on the centerline, fill the deck between my feet with hexa so I can use that area for foot switches, and yoga mat pads to match the location of my heels in hopes of preventing dents. It will be a bit like a reverse traction bar so hopefully it doesn't drive me nuts.

Poor mans deckpad. Eva foam kids play mat. Works great! Plus spreads out the load on board top skin. Plus, feet never hurt.

I purchased these exact same ones last year, very inexpensive.

I did find that they are TOO thick. I lost a lot of sensitivity and control on the mast and took it off immediately.
I think they did their homework on the surfing deck grips...not to thick, not too thin etc...
