For wave riding, try short lines. Especially the small SOUL works excellent with short lines!

Shorter lines give a faster kite, but longer lines drift better. Wave vs Surf.

Hi Armin,
Unfortunatly it is not more like years ago on the FS bar & lines, different line lengths so you can easily take 3m or 5m (or was it 6m? / 9m?) of the lines..
Can you get that back on the new bars & lines? I loved it with the speed1's and Psycho3's.
Now with a Soul 10m I'm forced to cut the lines and splice them myselve (not a big problem) but doubting on which length.. on which length is the flag out safety line attached? thinking of cutting 50cm obove that..
What is the best for foiling and wave riding?
Thanks.

Hi Armin,

Yes, we have been too much ahead of its time when we had splitted Flyinglines with 12,6,3 meter . But almost no one used the possibility to be able to use up to 21m in 3m Steps.
But the Clamcleat bar is now delivered with 17m+3m. There is a option again.
Now with a Soul 10m I'm forced to cut the lines and splice them myselve (not a big problem) but doubting on which length.. on which length is the flag out safety line attached? thinking of cutting 50cm obove that..
Yes exactly.
What is the best for foiling and wave riding?
Thanks.
That is a very personal question. You can even ride with 12m especially the small once.
But Jumping feels very strange at the beginning with short lines and it gives you no good Hangtime.

17m is good if you like shorter lines for a lot of people. Shorter is very special, but I love it a lot especially for waves.

Thank you, Armin

Today have a session in very gusty 10-20 kts wind with 10m Soul/9m lines/45cm bar + spitfire XL. Unexpectadly good power control in gusts, shifts and power zone crossing.

As the cross power zone distance is short, kite is not able to accelerate to max speed before reaching edge of wind window, and that is the science behind excellent power control.
The same with wind range - xtremly wide!
Not any overflying, even in strong shifts the drift was so short, that kite had no chance to change shape/position in WW.
Carving downwind was marvellous.
Downloops - excellent.
Until now I was boosting high with this kite on 17m lines in 10-15 winds. My first few jumps on shorter lines showed big potential to boost even higher, due to better control in high winds and quick kite repositioning.
I wonder what I,ll get after few sessions on this setup?
Cheers
Tadeusz

Someone can ask: what in common has Soul 10 with this thread?
The answer is:
After this session I’m convinced I will use it on 9m lines as my wave kite in winds above 12. Should work as well as Soul 6 on 12m lines. I plan to shorten Soul6 lines to 8 or even 7m to get similar or even better kite behaviour as Soul10m on 9m lines. Will let you know the outcome.

Cheers
Tadeusz

9m Lines are really short. But it shows the potential of the SOUL at short lines even with that radical short lines. For most 12-17m is short enough.

Have fun and I hope to see some picture of you.
